Replacing windshield gasket in 99 holiday rambler endeavor.

Just picked up a 99 HR endeavor DP. The windshield gasket is torn up top around the edges, and almost all the way across the top. It does not appear to be leaking yet, but in my eyes it is preventative maintenance. How much does it cost to remove both windows, install a new gasket and re-install the windows? Would love to hear from someone who has actually had this done. Preferably in the phoenix, AZ area. I got a quote from the local RV place for over $1000. They told me it was $400 labor and $600 for the gasket. Opinions?
  • I suggest you cut off the old rain gutter portion of the old gasket, and use masking tape around the area you want to caulk. Good luck.

  • Update: Called a few glass shops that deal with RV's. Looks like it's a solid thousand dollars to pull both windshields and install a new gasket. And they "cannot be held liable if the windows get broken". I am going to buy some of that sealant and caulk the cracked gasket.

Dap Premium Elastomeric Latex Sealant in black. It has held up well, and the label claims it's good for 50 years.

Used the same stuff on our H/R Vacationer windshield gasket & no leaks since.
Probably would be a good idea, to inspect the side windows as well. Those gaskets next to the windows will srink up & cause a leak & normally it will srink up at the bottom & rain will go right in.

  • I appreciate the advice, but I think i'd rather just get a new gasket this time around. One of the service guys at the RV place I have been going to for years tells me that if the windows pop out, they are something like $1400/each to replace, plus the gasket. He strongly advised me to have a new gasket installed. He is not a salesman, so I know he is not BS'ing me.

  • I have the 2000 version of your coach. I'm still using the original windshield gasket.

The original windshield gasket has a rain gutter molded into the top edge of the gasket, and this eventually fails. On mine, the top portion leaked but the remainder was in good condition. I've even had one windshield section replaced since my repair with no problems.

When mine started leaking, I simply cut off the rain gutter portion, gently pulled the remaining gasket back from the fiberglass cap, caulked between the gasket and the fiberglass cap, then caulked over the top of the gasket. It's been leak free now for about 4 years.

You could also buy windshield sealant from a glass shop, or use the CR Laurence product for sealing between dual pane windows. ( C.R. LAURENCE 877 CRL Super Spacer Sealant, which is available from Amazon.com. It's about $13.00 per tube, and is black also.)

This will be much cheaper than having a new gasket installed.

  • They may be jacking the price do high because they are worried about breaking the glass in the process.
  • call some car glass shops better yet just show up, the price will be half and you won,t have to wait a month. OH and they,ll do it right.
  • About six years ago the gaskets were leaking on our 96 Southwind.
They were not torn or damaged.
I took it to a glass shop recommended by a local RV dealer.

They removed both windshields, cleaned, resealed and reinstalled them using the original gasket.
The techs told me that not enough sealant was used when the windshields were installed at the factory.

They have not leaked or given me problems, I still have the Southwind.

Like I said, it was six years ago. (maybe seven)

    They charged me $300.00.

The labor charge for your HR sounds about right. I can't comment on the gasket since they reused my original one.

I would check around, call some auto glass shops, etc..
Maybe you can get a better price on the gasket.

    Hope this helps.
