roof

Took my class C 31 ft in today to have a sealtech leak detection done. This is a coach that has not leaked a drop but wanted to be proactive. Was told the tech had a concern and it would be $1300 to scrap the roof and reseal. This is a 2003, so has the rubber roof. Been up there several times and things look good to me. As I said want to be proactive, but $1300 seems a little much to me. Am I wrong? Can I do this? Have done it on other RVs without the rubber roof. If I am wrong, I will go the money, just want to make sure. What questions should I ask? Thanks.

  • It is to clean and seal. With all the responses, I will do it myself. Thanks everyone for the input. Jerry
  • I think there was a miss-communication. To replace the roof is much more than $1300 and to clean & re-caulk is much less - so what's the $1300 for???
Just clean it yourself & caulk over all the old caulk. Don't replace your roof -if it isn't leaking or torn. A rubber is good for 15 to 20 years with maintenance.
  • If there is a Rhino Lining place, it may be expensive, but the price is about the same as a new rubber roof, you might look at having them spray a coating on the top... the nice thing about their product is that once on, no need to worry about Dicor or Eternabond. One does have to check if the roof got punctured by branches every so often, but leaks are a thing of the past.

I'd highly consider this option as an alternative to the rubber roof.
  • Perhaps his "concern" is business is slow, it's Feb...x2 on Eternabond and Dicor...
  • What was the 'concern' the tech had about your roof?
Our 96 Southwind has the original rubber roof, it's in good condition.
    I use Eternabond, Dicor.
  • I just cleaned my roof with a soft detergent. Looked for any loose sealant around vents etc. and removed. Used EtrnaBond for the front and end cap seam. Dicore around to reseal the vents etc. Then used a good rubber roof coating I got from Home Depot. to repaint roof. Never had a problem,

But here is a clicky on roofs:

  • Save your $ and do it yourself. It is not that difficult to recaulk and maintain roof seams. Last year I installed eternabond on front and rear seams and recaulked tank and roof vent opening. It cost about $100 in material and 1 day.
The rest is just regular inspections and touch up with caulk as needed.
