- drittalExplorerPW is more capable offroad. But the Pro-4x adds offroad tires and skid plates and such.
According to Nissan a base SV 4x4 has 1838lb payload. Pro-4x 1733lb. I'm guessing by the trim in the pics, the truck in the OP was SL or Platinum Reserve. ***zoomed in it is a Platinum Reserve*** - IdaDExplorer

I agree, Nissan will probably need to offer pretty hefty rebates, especially if sales are not what they expect at first.
As to the lack of payload, base Titan XD has around 2k with crew cab. RAM 2500 5.7 C.C. 4x4 is 2,190. RAM 2500 6.7 TD C.C. 4x4 is 2,190. RAM 2500 C.C. Power Wagon is... 1,480. Pro-4X is a competitor to the P.W. with almost identical payload.
4900 lb RAWR vs 6500 lb, though. The three standard SRW heavy duty trucks are a lot more truck for about the same money. But that being said the current crop of regular half tons don't really cost any less than their big brothers either.
The PW is a more capable truck with two solid axles, lockers and swaybar disconnects. I don't know exactly what the Pro-X package offers but the IFS alone would hamper it a lot compared to the PW. - drittalExplorerI agree, Nissan will probably need to offer pretty hefty rebates, especially if sales are not what they expect at first.

Understand. But the issue being if a NISSAN COMMANDS a comparable PRICE POINT. Nissan certainly hasn't been thought of as the "Standard" when it comes to towing in this class. As a matter of fact-it has to justify this price in it's own class. Get a diesel motor-and a low payload. As a matter of fact-the payload in my Silverado is 1444 pounds. What do I get with the Nissan?-Oh yeah another 40ish pounds of payload and a diesel motor.
Big difference on these prices is in reality Nissan will not discount like Ram. My 3d was 12k from list. GM and Ford didn't even come close. After this thread very happy I went the little Italian oil burner.
In my experience the big three all have similar discounts from sticker. It varies some depending on where you live so in certain areas some brands may run more or less, but overall they all discount similarly. I'm not sure howNissan will compare but they won't sell many of these trucks if the dealers try to charge close to sticker. - hvacExplorer

The Nissan XD Titan Cummins in the pics has the gooseneck option.
Question for those with experience towing gooseneck trailers. Is 1488 lbs. of payload enough to make this truck useful towing an "average" gooseneck trailer in the realworld? I think most would agree 1488 lbs. is not enough payload to safely handle the pin weight of the vast majority of 5th wheels.
I don't know if my two gooseneck trailers are "average" or not, but in my case, the Titan would be overloaded with the horse trailer for sure ( 8100 lbs empty, 14.5K gross ). It would be fine with my equipment trailer.....empty :).....but overloaded if the trailer had the bobcat on it, or let's say 150 bales of hay ( about 11K gross ).
I saw a Titan on the lot the other day here in Tucson and looked it over. Nicer looking in real life than the pictures I had seen of it. Nice color of dark blue. $55.7K sticker. It's not for me, but my bet is they will sell every one they can make. And yes, as others have said here, you'll see them soon with all sorts of fifth wheel campers on the back. I'm in a resort right now in AZ, and as usual, I see a lot of F150 EB's and Tundra's with fifth wheels. - dshelleyExplorerNissan has just now made this truck available. It is competing in a market dominated by three very capable trucks. Four if one wishes to include Toyota. I'm sure in time, other models will be available and payloads will increase. It looks promising to me, I like what I see so far and wish them well.
- drittalExplorerProperly equipped it can have as much as 2k payload. The PRO-4X is more about offroad. Let's face it, it's just a heavy half ton.
5.0 isn't a miracle. But more capable than any 1/2t engine barring the Ecoboost that can cost MORE depending on trim. - HybridhunterExplorerWell the truck has a very low payload rating for what it is, how about instead of immediately discussing how to use it overloaded, we all just realize that there are cheaper, better and more capable alternatives? This is the same excuses the Mopar Mafia repeats every other thread. And the Cummins 5.0 is no miracle engine either!
- drittalExplorerI'm not saying anybody should exceed their ratings. I'm saying people do. And this thing will pull anything it is rated to pull better than any V8 on the market. And this from a guy towing with a V8.
The price point is pretty reasonable for what you are getting as well. The wimpy EcoDiesel adds $4,270 to the price of a Ram. Ram Cummins is an $8,995. AISIN you have to get a 3500 and pay another $2,595. This Titan has a Cummins AND Aisin for what appears to be $5,000.
People here, including you, are complaining about payload and price. How many people here use a cummins, duramax, or powerstroke to tow RV that are 1/2t towable? This beast will take a 8,000lb travel trailer down the road with power and comfortable driving experience that only the ecoboost can match but with better MPG.
This is exciting for me, as it should be for a lot of us. Right now both Ford and GM have a mid sized turbo diesel that can compete with this 5.0 cummins. They just have never made them available to the N/A market because EPA regs drove costs up and mileage down... to the point they didn't see a big enough gap between them and the the big diesels. On the shelf they went. Even this 5.0 was offered to Ram years ago but they turned it down because at that time it didn't meet the mileage numbers they wanted.
If people are willing to pay a little extra for the increased capability over their gas 1/2t this TITAN XD could be a game changer.
