- Turtle_n_PeepsExplorerI have no idea but the OP wanted to know about the 6.4 and the Siemens pump has a worse reputation than the CP4. Now that is saying something!
6.4 pump failure. Listen from 1:05 to 1:20.
Another cab off repair.
I'll bet that motor is junk.
Another 6.4 pump go boom!
Less problems than the 6.0.
These are just fuel pump repairs on the 6.4. I won't even talk about the tons of turbo repairs or radiator problems. :E Turtle n Peeps wrote:

Never owned one but based on actual owners responding here it would appear to be reasonably reliable but not great on fuel mileage. There will always be an entire chorus of Ford haters on this forum who have nothing but doom and gloom stories on why you shouldn't ever buy a Ford.
I agree there are Ford haters. However I am not one. I have had Ford's up to my current truck. I have Ford work vans.
Nevertheless Ford has had real issues with their PSD engines after the 7.3. To recommend a 6.0 or 6.4 engine to someone without making them aware of the issues would be misleading. I have nothing to gain or loose but I prefer to give an honest opinion.
One does not have to own the truck first hand to become aware of problems. Every vehicle will develop a history and reputation on its own.
I prefer the interior, chassis, and overall Ford truck better however their 2003-2011? Diesel engines have had issues and have developed a questionable reputation.
The only reason I have a Chevy now is due to the issues with Ford diesels of my era.
Currently Ford is shooting itself in the foot again by denying warranty claims on the 6.7 engine.
Maybe some do not want to hear any discouraging remarks about Ford.
I am not so brand loyal that I choose to cover up or deny real issues.
Hopefully someone may avoid making a big mistake by being informed.
I imagine the OP wanted all the info he could get both good and bad in order to make an informed decision.
Thank you... yes... all the info! but on another note. I have a great relationship with my local ford dealer. They haven't denied any warranty claims on the 6.7L unless there is obvious owner abuse....
Did you have a failure of your HPFP? If not, your Ford dealership can not override FMC if there ever was a question of warranty coverage on the HPFP.
As long as the dealer follows the required check list and sends pictures to Ford to validate no rust is in the pump or DEF crystals in the filters there should be no denial.
In addition there's been some reports that the techs are the culprits in an effort to charge more $$$$ instead of warranty repair $$$$.
So what's your excuse with Ricatic's pump Troy?
No rust found in the whole fuel system. No DEF either. WARRANTEE DENIDED!
I for one would like to see these reports. I'm sure you have them right Troy?
I don't know why Ricks warranty was denied, but I suspect it was a fraudulent dealer as there are others including some techs who will not do the proper diagnosis and just take the route to capture more $$$$ which is not the warranty route. Going by his story with no rust internally in the pump and no DEF crystals it met the criteria for warranty coverage which I've read reports that warranty was covered due to no contamination. In addition my cousin reported he or the other techs simply go by the Fords document and don't feel they are pressured to deny warranty. His shop did void warranty on a Ford CP4 and 2 Dodge CP3 pumps for fuel contamination last year which was gasoline in the tank.
Now where's that link where a Duramax/CP3 pump failed and warranty was denied do to water contamination that was reported here on RV.net?- ricaticExplorerIt takes 8 ounces of water to turn on the "no warranty" WIF light...there is so much that can be said(and has been) about the frailty of the Bosch 4.xx series HPFP...Porsche actually used the word "delicate".
VW has again restated their coverage of the Bosch HPfp in their TDI's. They were told by NHTSA to either warranty them all or recall them all...GM continues to lead the way with the Bosch 4.xx HPFP...they just fix them all...I have not looked in a while but I have never seen a post about GM failures or warranty denial. Oh, they fail, as often as a Blue Oval POS,but GM quietly fixes them. I have even seen reports of GM offering loaner trucks while the repair is being completed.

There are several manufacturers using the Bosch CP4.xx series HPFP...Ford, GM, Mercedes, Porshe and VW to name a few...all but one manufacturer fixes these POS pump failures, no questions asked, under warranty...only the BLUE Oval has decided to"not repair under warranty" their HPFP failures...this is not hate...it's just the facts...

I agree. And how did the water get past the water seperator/filter? Why did it not actuate the warning light? I can understand Ford not warranting the failure if there was massive amounts overburdening the filter. Doesnt seem to be the case here. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer

Regards - jerem0621Explorer IIOP...I would skip the 6.4. At least when the 6.0 blows an EGR cooler you can have time to react before major damage...and most of the time the damage is limited to the head gaskets. When the 6.4's EGR fails it dumps into the #4 or 8 piston hydro locking the motor and grenadine the bottom end.
Look up powerstroke help on youtube. He has some dedicated info on the 6.4 as well as the other powerstroke's
Thanks!

Then that's why your warranty was voided. I will also stress that any fuel system that has rust will be void of warranty.
It would be intresting to see the tear down of "good" pump! If the consences is that there is water in all diesel there should be some rust in all of them. How much and bad was the rust. daily double wrote:
