Replacement of expensive under sink water filter

I have this metal water filter that clogs up about every 3 months and costs $38.00 to replace. I wanted go to home depot and plumb in a less expensive option.

Anyone done this, and if yes how ?
  • If it's the 1/2 micron/activated carbon filter I'm thinking of... they are expensive and really good. I've used fairly inexpensive 1 micron particulate filters ahead of the expensive filters for decades with great success. IMO, any water filter over 1 micron is a waste of time... that's been my experience in a career of plant maintenance. Craig
  • I had same issue with my under sink filter in my 04 Jayco. I believe the hard water down here caused it to plug up if he sat long period. I eliminated it and have a large filter between source and RV. No issues in last 5 years.
  • Have not done it in the MH but have done it in the house. The built in refrigerator filter is $$$$$$$$$$$. I simply put an inexpensive $ but quality filter under the sink and feed the fridge from that. Expensive does not mean high quality!

The plumbing is simple, most generic inline filters have 1/4" quick connect fittings. The hardest technical part is pointing the filter in the right direction. .
  • If the under sink filter is clogging what easy I think I would also be worried about all the cr@p that's causing that is also in the coach water system probably doing long term damage. The filter casings sold at Home Depot can be fit with any number of various filters and easily stacked. They also have pipe to hose adapters over in plumbing to permit it to be installed in the wet bay or pedestal.

I have no experience with Yuma water but apparently it's one of the worst places you can go. Find someone that's there and listen to what they've done.

I think a good flushing and sanitation might be in order (with the filter bypassed). Then an inexpensive pre-filter might solve the long term problem.

$38 is not a bad price for a GOOD water filter.

Interesting, I thought $38 is outragious for a filter. You can buy good 5 micron filters and 5 micron charcol filters for less than $10 for your home. I would replace the filter and the housing and shop on line for some good inexpensive filters.

  • Keep the Everpure and put a filter between the tap and the coach and the everpure will last 6-12 months and is worth the $38 for good filter water that tastes as good as bottled water.
  • A less expensive filter will simply let more junk through. You need to add another pre-filter (sediment) , as the common metal Everpure filters normally last a full year.
That said, any filter that will fit will work, just a matter of plumbing.
