We have been planing a road trip that would take us up the full length of Vancouver Island, the ferry to Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii returning via Prince George and Whistler. My point is, Tesla, Rivan chargers and who knows who else in future, won't be available. That is no way to promote EV's.

I don’t know the island very well although it looks like it would be fine on the map. Certainly Prince Rupert to Prince George is easy. But as you say, sounds like you are planning other side trips so good on you for doing your research. We are making a trip up to Rupert in July this year in the Tesla. We are not anticipating any problems. BUT WE ARE DEFINITELY BRINGING A SPARE. :). I know that highway well.

I think hydrogen motor fuel stations are standardized.

I think the Toyota Miara has 400mile range on 15lbs of H which takes 5 minutes to “recharge”.

I think H fill stations can be installed wherever there is electricity and water available.

I don’t think H fuel cell range is bothered by cold weather.

I don’t know how fuel cell materials mining compares to battery electric materials mining.

I think battery electric makes all kinds of sense for people who don’t travel that far from home, commute, or travel areas where chargers already exist.

Harbour Air in BC Canada already has test flown a DHC-3 Otter on floats powered by battery electrics.

I'm interested in the Q4 Etron that is coming out to replace my Q5 but might go for a Q5 PHEV instead and this is a big reason why.

That ETron is a nice buggy. It’s a CCS car. You’ll have no problem finding public charging. Electrify Canada and Electrify America will probably have some kind of special deal for ETron owners as it is essentially VW’s public/private network. As well any public network will do.

The Q4 etron isn't out yet, it is based on the same platform as the VW ID4 and will be competition for the Model Y. As things stand where I live, if I was travelling up country for a wine run I would be taking my 1t diesel before I would take an EV. I'm just not interested in making hunting for charging stations my particular brand can use as part of my trip.

I'm not interested in vehicles that have brand specific fueling infrastructure and it is something the EV industry and government need to address if they really want them to become truly mainstream.

Many people just will not drive an EV and that is OK. I personally am on a quest to avoid owning a diesel, ever. That class A DP is just not on the radar for me.

I can pull into any gas station to fill up, I don't have to plan for the next Shell station. VW's system will be open to everyone but If I pull into a VW charging facility and have to wait behind a Tesla and a Rivan to charge my Audi when I can't use their facilities, well I'm not interested in that stupidity. I'll stick with gas or a PHEV until the EV folks get their act together and make it work for everyone.

You will use your navigation to locate the next convenient charging spot appropriate for your vehicle and the navigation takes you there. You will not be directed to a Tesla or Rivian charging station.

Same as you would not stop at Home Depot and expect to get groceries.
