awning let down lever stuck/frozen in down position

Just got our Class C motorhome from winter storage. Our awning "let down lever" is frozen in the "pull awning down" position and I do mean FROZEN/STUCK...any idea how to get it to so we can pull our awning down? With the lever in this position (actually PAST the let down position) we cannot budge our awning cover...
  • Well that stinks j-d!

Ours doesn't bind, it was just not wanting to switch back to unroll. As I recall, it was when we first got it. I was half way into a rollup and stopped, then tried to pull it back down before I flipped the switch. It was not happy with me. It took some effort, but it finally let go.

    Yo Jose...
Should have mentioned... Our carefree latch also gets bound up on the upper mounting bracket.
  • I did exactly the same as j-d when mine jammed up. I had to pull kinda hard, but the lever switched over. While we are on the subject, can that mechanism be lubed internally?

  • Grab the roller and try to manually move/roll it a bit .. doesn't have to move much to "unstick".
  • If it moves and it shouldn't, Gorilla Glue. If it doesn't move and it should, WD40. But seriously, it sounds more like its broken than stuck, if its past the "extend" position.

I've had ours stick like that and been able to get up on a ladder and twist the whole roller back and to a little while tweaking the control lever.

What Brand? We have a Carefree with a "remote control" slide device that eliminates an awning rod. That sucker is a source of binding. I've never had trouble with an awning with a release control lever that requires a rod.

Otherwise, WD-40 and keep wiggling it!

If it's closed, it seems like it would be frozen in the "roll awning up" position-?

    In any case:
Is this a manually operated awning, and if so are you talking about a frozen sliding lock mechanism on the awning arm? Or the lever at the top that "unlocks" the roller tube?
