- BarneySNomadI have been using NoMoRobo on both my landline and cell phone for quite some time (cell phone coverage just started last year). You need to id your carrier. The landline is free but there is a small cost for the cell phone per month. It is worth it! It is very rare that a call will get through that I don't want.
I always let my phones ring more than once. If it only rings once then it was a spam call. I have had not problems at all with the doctors, mail order pharmacy, etc. getting through.
The cell phone cost is $1.99/month or $19.99/year.
Barney - SongbirdsExplorerMy little Geek, helped me to fix this issue. I was getting three or four per-day and it was crazy. Here is what he told me to do and it worked.
First, understand when your phone is in SLEEP MODE the only calls you get are from your favorites LIST. So the only one who can contact you are on FAVORITES, NO RINGS, NOTHING COMES THROUGH during meetings or talks with friends. NOTHING.
Add all contacts to favorites LIST on iPhone contacts. So the FIXER is to put your phone on SLEEP MODE. Then all Contacts and YES you have to put all contacts on FAVERATORS LIST. Then when they 800 calls come rolling in you hear nothing. At the end of the day, you may have three or four calls that did not come through.
I BLOCK them anyway, next I will check voicemails as that is the new JOKER being used. But then found I had BLOCKED in 1-year I have had over 200-CALLS I have BLOCKED. I believe it started when gave FACETRASH my number which I learn friends also got the number. As well maybe Twittwist and I have removed myself from all of them. GOT MY NUMBER as that is when the calls started rolling in for one to 3 or four per day. with no left messages, I BLOCKED them. So if some EMAIL or internet groups what your number for security to protect your password you will be giving it to the world.
UNDERSTAND, The world wants your DATA, make a chose and don't give it to them.
SO with my iPhone on Sleep MODE for 22-Hours nothing but my contacts comes through and NO DAILY RINGS SOUNDS. Works for me very well. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIOk, so you know there are "Robo-call blockers" the problem is they work too well. There are a few Robots I do accept calls from
Pharmacy "Your refill is ready for pickup"
Doctor "You have an appointment tomorrow at 4pm"
And they will block those as well.
Thankfully my Phone provider flags most of 'em as Scam or Suspected Scam. But short of simply turning the phone off. not much you can do.
IF you can identify the caller.. There is something that you can do, but alas, even tracing the number won't help.. The Scammers use random phone numbers, pick one, make about a thousand calls using that number,, but it's not there number.. One day it was MY number.. That was fun. I did turn my phone off.
You can also do a "White list" call blocking (in fact you can get the app free in the Google app store) It blocks everybody not on your personal contact list. - TurnThePageExplorerCan't you set your phone or service to only ring if the number is in your contact list?

NoMoRobo works great and is free for land lines, but there's a charge for cell phones, not much, but not free.
Hi,
I have this service on my landline (VoIP) and it works great.
No More Robo - catkinsExplorer IIMr. Number is free and has cut down my spam calls by 99%! There are others out there.
I also now simply refuse to answer anything coming in that has a number I do not recognize. If it is important, they can leave a message. Spammers don't bother, they want that person touch to start to work you. Good luck. - SteveAEExplorer
- OkieGeneExplorerI'm using NoMoRobo. It's pretty good.
- mat60ExplorerI got a recording call from the IRS today on my cell phone saying if I don't call them back at this number in the next 30 min the local cops are going to take me to jail. I been waiting all afternoon..
- Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIMy cell phone does not get many spam calls but the wife's phone gets hundreds. Both have the same area code and the same first 3 digits but the differences are like night and day. Mine has been on the DNC registry for years and the wife's number is a "new to us" phone number that used to be owned by someone else (based upon the collection calls she also receives). Both phones are listed with DNC but as others have mentioned, this does not really mean much.
