No V-8 diesel can make better mileage than the in-line Cummins.
Say what???? :R Stop being silly!!
You need to tell that to these guys.
And both of the V8's put out about 50 more horsepower than the little slant 6 and still beat it in mileage!! :B - RobertRyanExplorer

Way back when, we looked at 1/2 tons, and there were a some things about the Titan that I liked even more than the Ram 1500 - some of the interior features and that little glove door on the outside. In my experience, Nissan has some good reliability too.
I've been very interested to see how this does for them. I'm with NC Hauler on this one. It may be a winner.
ETA - if they came out with a 3500 DRW with a Cummins and Aisin, it would certainly be worth considering as long as the other components were sufficient.
I agree, I like to know why they think that this combination will work for the Titan compared to a 3/4 ton - Perrysburg_DodgExplorerItguy you're so full of bull excrement that it's not funny.
Fact, my dealer does Eco-diesel oil changes for $65 + tax with a tire rotation and fills all fluids.
Fact, @ 70 MPH my Eco-diesel makes 27 MPG not 22.8 what the 2.7 makes @55 MPH!
Fact, Ram trucks are taking market share from both Ford and the GM twins every quarter so someone must like them.
Now back to the topic.
No V-8 diesel can make better mileage than the in-line Cummins. The output ratings for the 5.0 V8 Cummins are what my 2004 5.9 were but without the fuel mileage. Will it sell, yes, yes it will. It fills a market segment and you can bet GM is going to join in on this. Ford had better get on board if they want to keep their BS claim as the best selling truck (F series trucks that is).
Here are the pics I posted back in January, looks like a very capable truck to me.
Note the 6 lug axle!

Why? The Ecodiesel does about the same as the EB 2.7 according to the EPA.You always go back to the additional maintenance costs (which never seem to pan out) and the engine premium (which almost always comes back at time of resale) as reasons not to buy a diesel.
Really? Cause Ram guys are saying $80 DIY oil changes on the Ecodiesel.
From www.ram1500diesel.com :
Ram Ecodieel Oil Change Cost DIY
Dealer Oil Changes
EcoDiesel Oil Change Price Shock
The dealer does oil changes on my Ecoboosts for $40 every 7.5-10k. I can DIY with Pennzoil Platinum (one of the best oils out there) for a hair over $40.
Around here (PA) 6 months of the year Diesel is more expensive than premium so fuel costs is about a wash. Right now its between mid grade and premium.I will give you a tip. There are trucks out there that DO NOT wear the blue oval that are good trucks. This may prove to be one of them.
Yeah. GM, Toyota and Nissan also make fine trucks. The only one that really makes substandard vehicles is Chrysler/Ram.
This truck looks like a neat vehicle. The MT article really makes it seem like Nissan has a good truck here. Seems to be in line with he other "heavy" 1/2 tons.
Funny. From the title of this thread, I thought this was something on the 5.0 Cummins. When did it become about the Ecodiesel?
And, in regard to diesel oil changes, I have had the dealer change the oil on my trucks for the last 12 years and 150,000 + miles. I have NEVER paid more than $60 for an oil change. Not sure if that will be true for the Nissan, but I would bet if the dealer wants to keep your business, they will make it happen. - PowerdudeExplorerPersonally, I think there is a HUGE gap between the big block gassers available in terms of torque, and the huge 6.7 liter diesels that put out 800+ ft. lbs. of torque.
Ford's 6.2 liter is only 385 hp, and 405 ft. lbs of torque.
Ram's 6.4 liter is 410 hp, 429 ft. lbs of torque.
The difference in ft. lbs between the gas trucks and the diesel option is 400 ft. lbs of torque. That's big enough to start asking the question, why?
Personally, I think Ford, Ram and GM purposely keep their gas trucks underpowered to drive high margin, high profit diesel truck sales.
These trucks have relatively high maintenance requirements, and are total overkill for most people who do not tow 14,000 lbs 5th wheels or have some sort of business need.
I think the Titan XD has a definite market for people who may have an average 9-10k lbs 5th wheel/trailer, that they may not feel fully comfortable towing with a half-ton/or 3/4 ton big block gasser.
And, more competition and more choices are always good. - itguy08Explorer

:h...Where did you get all this information? .....They had to "give it away with no guarantee for volume production"?? The engine is overdue in development by at least four times the "normal length"??? What is the "normal length"?.....So they literally gave the engine away so that they could get a customer to purchase the diesel...You must be an insider with scads of factual data that hasn't been brought to this thread yet....please continue to enlighten us.. - itguy08Explorer

No one is cutting on the Ford:h...it's all about having a choice...now we have one more...and if you think that the tranny that they're going to put in the Nissan is just a 'good tranny".....unless I'm missing something, it's the same medium duty tranny that is in my 1 ton dually Cummins with 385HP, 850lbft of TQ, a GVWR of 14,000# and a GCWR of 37,500#...so the tranny is an actual, true, medium duty tranny like the Allison in the GM/Chevy trucks...
I didn't mean people were cutting on the F150. But it;s just funny to me that there is gushing over this which is a HD 150/1500 and everyone is saying it seems to be the second coming.
Reading the link from MT the trans is "based on" the Aisin in the Ram and the frame is "based on" the 1 ton Van. What "based on" means is up to debate though.Cut some slack...let poor little Nissan get a little "piece of the action"...they'll NEVER cut into Fords sales, so you'll be ok:)
:) Ive got no issue with Nissan. Owned one of their vehicles (Infiniti G35) and it was a great car. And this Titan sure does look nice and would be worth a look as it seems to have a great foundation. - MM49ExplorerThe early development of this new Cummins was not rosy at all. Still in pre-production trials. Hang on, not much longer...
