Just talked to a friend from Stuart today, all the Hyder bear's are at the garbage dump, causing a lot of trouble for the local's that are trying to control them.

Anne and Max,
it's been a while since i had a chance to follow your blog...sounds like you're still having adventures~glad to hear that.
we're in seward now. we spent 1 month in soldotna (fishing everyday, limited out most of them) we're now the proud owners of a 5 cubic foot freezer (stuffed) in addition to the 24 cubic foot in the motor home...we are loving our catch!
we even went to homer and chartered a boat that went all the way to Kodiak island for halibut, lingcod and rockfish..we panicked when we got home and had to load another 90 lbs of fish in! but, we did it!!!!
thanks for the update on hyder...we were hoping we won't be too late to see the bears there, but we're not getting our hopes up. so far, we've been shocked at the lack of wildlife we've seen compared to our trip of 6 years ago...
but that hasn't diminished the magic of this state...we love it so much!
safe travels,
sue

We arrived in Stewart/Hyder yesterday afternoon. Saw one grizzly yesterday (during a 3 hour stay) and one grizzly and one black bear today (one hour stay). The stream is full of salmon. It has rained both days, but the forecast for the next three days does not include rain. In talking to people who have been here longer, a few wolves have also been seen at Fish Creek.

We have posted a few of the pictures on our blog at Alaska2014.blogspot.com

We were in Hyder last week and we saw Black bear ---sow and cub at the viewing area and another large male black bear a couple hundred yards from Run-A-Muck campground toward town. I saw a black bear on the road leading to the boat harbor.

Thanks very much. We've been very surprised at the number of bears we've seen this year. Even near fishing areas on the Russian river the bears haven't shown up. Wonder what's up ? I appreciate your feedback , it helps us plan our trip a bit

We've been here for two days and have only seen one bear. It's been raining every day so maybe that's a factor. We're leaving this morning.
