Gibson Reservoir Montana

Mortimer Gulch Campground. This place is great with beautiful campsites AND...all you gotta do is put 20 miles of dirt road between the location and humanity and no one will go there. Works great for us. And so, even on holidays, you get great spots with lots of privacy. Of course we have to wait to dump tanks until we get back, but hey it takes two hours to get there and there are multiple dump sites back in Helena MT. And the drive to and from is beautiful unto itself.

Definitely do the hike along the edge of the reservoir. Awesome. It is actually one of the routes into the Bob. Fishing is good. And be sure to stock up on what you need at the store in Augusta MT. It is a treat unto itself as one of those places that will not be around probably in 10 years or so. It has everything and I mean everything packed into a hundred plus year old building.

This is a hidden gem. And if you want go to the Sunflower Canyon lodge for a meal. It is another hidden gem out in the middle of nowhere. We really suffer here in Montana I must tell you. I spent my whole life getting to a place like this.

Reminds me of "The Frank" here in Idaho - the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness.

Yes, its right next to "The Bob" as it is called by many up here. In fact, that one trail I was referencing that travels along the edge of the reservoir is one of the trails into it. Oh, it's a good dirt road also. And looking at your TT, you should do fine. Of interest, is that after you get there, there is paved road all through the area. And definitely hike to the bottom of the dam and hit the Sun Canyon Lodge for a burger and/or beer.

This is near the Bob Marshall Wilderness, right? I have heard that this whole area is like Glacier National Park, but with no people. I have also heard that there are plenty of grizzlies -- fun to watch, if they keep their distance . . . .
