Well, since I looked last night a good number of sites that were open then are now booked so I went ahead and booked a site in the 100 loop. Looking at pics of the 700 loop sites that wee available, many of them looked pretty muddy.

The 100 and 200 loops are older, and the sites are smaller (generally) than the 700 loop. If I were you, with the size rig you have, I would start by looking in the 700 loop. As was noted, with pets, only 100, 200, and 700 loops are available to you.

It's just Mrs. SpeakEasy and me now (empty-nesters). But we can choose from among 7 grandchildren to drag along with us!

I'm much smaller than you (20' TT), but here is what I do when looking for a new site. First get on line with the registration site, in this case www.reserveamerica.com, and check the sites by size. When you find a possible site I switch to Google Maps and zoom in on the site, if you are lucky and on a PC you might be able to walk the access roads. At last visit only loop 800 had this option in Letchworth SP.

We have reservations for Memorial weekend for the hot air balloon festival and Columbus day for a 3 day craft show. Both weekends have been booked solid 9 mo in advance. So I would advise making your reservations ASAP.

The campadk.com site helped me pick a site in the 100 loop for August, of course we'll find out in August how accurate the photos are.

Letchworth allows up to 2 pets, but only in the 100, 200, and 700 loops. The 300, 600, and 800 loops do not allow pets. We were in the 800 loop when we were there a couple of years ago, so I can't recommend a site for you. It's a nice park with some great views of the canyon, river, and several water falls.

My recollection is that the campsites were generally on a par with each other, that no particular loop was especially spectacular or dumpy. They're typical state park sites, gravel pads with picnic tables and fire rings, set amid trees and bushes with at least a little separation between them. Obviously there are differences in lengths and amenities (like electric hookups) and whether pets are allowed and that sort of thing.

The campadk.com campsite photo database is a handy tool for checking out specific sites when thinking about a reservation at Letchworth and many other New York state parks and campgrounds.

If you haven't been before, you're in for a treat. Letchworth is a beautiful (and quite large) park. Be aware that the campground is some miles from the most famous parts of the park, the waterfalls and whatnot, so expect to do some driving around (or biking, or a good bit of hiking).
