Thanks, and that was one of the biggest questions in my mind... How it was to get into place, especially getting there in the middle of the night.
Our son was a Blue Band member and we attended every home game for around 10 years back in the 96 to 05 time frame and stayed in our TT on campus for home games. We always got there in the mid afternoon Thur and left Sun so we never had to do the middle of the night thing. Things might have changed, but as mentioned it can be a zoo, but was fairly well organized and they had folks directing campers into their spots. Back there a lot of the area for campers is basically a cow pasture and I'm not sure how much the mud issue is anymore, but one thing is the fields where they put you has fairly long grass and if it's rained or dewy that grass (often 6 to 10" high) can be like glass especially if prior vehicles have mashed it down. They do or did provide tow assests if you get stuck. The first year we went (1996) they put a bunch of us in a field right near the turf farm and it has rained and almost everyone got stuck and even the tow trucks couldn't get into the field and had to winch folks out from the gravel entrance area. It was a sight to see 45' MH buried up to their axles being winched out by the massive 18 wheeler wreckers with one and sometimes two cable and two trucks with 100 to 150' of cable running out to the MHs. I even had to be winched out till I got traction.
Nights can be noisy and long since it's a continuous party after the game with liberal embibing till the wee hours of the A.M. so just be prepared.
You will have a great time so take it all in stride and enjoy ... it's an experience you won't forget and we completely enjoyed out jaunts to State College.
