Roof Repair

Hi Folks. Need some advice on roof repair. First, got a section that needs re-glued.

What to use? Need something that can kind of flow underneath. Lap sealant, (Dicor / equal) maybe?

Second, the bead of caulk(?) between the roof and metal edge is going away, need to replace it.

Again, what to use? Does lap sealant form a bead?

My intention is to "band-aid" the problems enough to get thru the season, and look at replacement over the winter.

Thanks in advance 🙂

OK, so here's what I did. I used Dicor self-levelling to glue the loose section back down. Put a piece of vinyl hose on the nozzle and gunned it as far in as I could. Hard to gun out? You betcha 🙂 Took a 3" plastic putty knife and squeegied it out for a thin bond line. The solvents in the sealant swelled the rubber temporarily, had some ripples in it, but it smoothed out OK. Seems it took prety good. Had it to do over I'd probably just slit the roof, lay it back and use contact cement.

Glued down:

The original problem seems to have been a couple of small holes in the rubber (blobs of butyl tape in the pic).

The caulk (red arrow in OP) was butyl tape down one side, a bead of Dicor down the other. Scraped it all off and ran a bead of non-sag down each side of the camper. It was probably more sound than it looked, but good to do. Went over the front and back edges with the lap seal as well.

Put an EternaBand-Aid over the problem area:

It looks like the AC condensate is just eroding the roof away:

Anyway, that ought to get me to winter, by which time I'll know what I'm gonna do about it, either re-coat or replace.

The loose section is not large, maybe 6" x 8". I was hoping to just gun some lap sealant under it and press it down (after removing the board!). Could use some contact cement on the edge, as I can coat both surfaces and let it tack off before joining. Not so much on the top 🙂 Dicor WB adhesive is about $90 / gal. I need a pint, maybe.

For the caulked edge (second pic), lap sealant for that? Will it form a bead, or flow out? If not lap seal, what?

I will pick up a smallish roll of Eternabond-type tape as well. Boy, they don't give this stuff away, do they?

Thx to all.

Eternabond tape to get thru the season.
Use Dicor water based adhesive to reglue the rubber to the roof and use the self leveling where needed.

Eternabond and Dicor are great products.

You will probably have to remove the 2x2 board under the roof material. :B.

No, Eternabond is not cheap. But it is worth the price. It's a one time repair.

Your biggest problem is that it has come loose at an edge. I think your best bet may be Eternabond tape IF you have enough of an edge surface for the tape to adhere to. I had similar damage and ended up replacing the entire roof.
