Blown Engine, 8.1l

Leaving Townsend GA yesterday for Covington GA and a Ham Fest I did not make it.. Just north of Reidsville there was a BANG, and a lot of smoke, and the engine died as I coasted to the shoulder.

Upon hooking up we found a big hole in the oil pan.. Im thinking (Due to other things) engine likely blown but a lower overhaul at minimum.

I am now in a tow lot in METTER, GA

Anyone know of a repair shop near here that can do the job

Hope you pick your engine supplier carefully..watch " when in Rome " on you tube...half way repairs caused him to go through 3.. 8.1 engines...the last is a jasper...I would avoid a junk yard engine...get a warranty..it is a huge job removing and replacing a class a engine..friends are friends but a shop that is equipped and has a history of doing good work is no substitute....then...

Come on to Covington as you were heading to and I will show you my 8.2 (502) in my airboat.

1-2 years it appears.. I spoke with a mechanic last week.. I do not yet know if he can handle the job (he is going to come visit me some Sunday, expected him last Sunday but no show.. Why Sunday.> Well it's liek 10-15 miles to his shop but only 4-5 to his church which is just down the road from My church).

Now. that's the good news.. The better news is he has a 8.1L sealed in plastic in a crate that he got from a well crashed pickup (got T-Boned) and planned on putting in an older Pickup.. However it was not compatable (Older one was carburated the one in the box EFI, same as mine) Should be a direct repalcement. So that's going to save me several thousand.

The other bad news was a letter from the IRS service.. I had to make a few "Adjustments" However as adjusted should not affect the total sked much, Save that if not for that letter I'd have enough today with a used engine.

If it is going to be sitting for a period of time why purchase the registration since its not going to be on the roads. Once its fixed then do the reg.. Could save the money? I have know several individuals that have been at a park for yrs and they do not keep current registration on the RV.

Don't know what state his coach is registered in but in KY that wont work, Here they will make you "Backup" and pay for the years the registration was expired..Or If you have more than one in your name you cannot tag it without having taxes on all other vehicles current.

We pay taxes on auto when you buy them ,pay property taxes and tag license fees on them to keep them, and pay the last years taxes on them when you sell them.

If it is NOT registered, his Insurance may lapse. He needs to talk to his insurance company IF he decides to not renew. Doug

Oh I know who can fix it... And I was in that town just yesterday (Getting a hair cut) just this side of Savannah. (Richmond Hill, next door to Dick Gore RV)

But I'm fairly happy now... The only real issue is that It is cheaper if I can shuttle between two campgrounds (about half the monthly price in the winter and 1/4 in the summer) and I'd like to visit Quartsite again.

But the funds look like they will appear as if by magic (Actually over 500/month in bills just went POOF, so this month I have my annual kick in the budget (Registration renewal) but Come Christmas I should be socking savings away) So in about 2 years. I'll be singing: On The Road Again.
