I've got a 95 Georgie Boy with a Kohler generator that's havin problems. I'm getting 130 volts out of it for about 5 minutes then voltage starts dropping off and generator dies. It will start back up but only briefly until it sits for awhile then does same thing over again. Is this something a novice can figure out or am I gonna have to call in some big guns
I am not going to give you any good news. I had. Kohler confident 5 in my 1995 Damon Intruder. I spent 300 to 400 on repairs, with no end in sight. I bit the bullet & bought a generac unit to replace. Best move I made. Good luck on you Kohler.
180 volts I'm guessing could do some damage. They were notorious for the voltage regulator going out. Costly item and hard to find, don't know how you would check it even. What you need is to get your hands on a manual. I had one in PDF, but after searching for it, I must have deleted it when I sold the rig. Many felt that the Kohler RV generator were junk and not worth fixing.
I reread my original post and made a mistype, this thing is putting out 180 volts on startup and steadily drops until it shuts off. Anyone have an idea?
There are 5 leds on control panel. 1,3 and 5 are brightly lit while running. 1 and 5 start to dim after a few minutes then it shuts off and 3 goes off. It try's to restart and all LEDs light up again but it just dies
Generators aren't my thing, but I did have that one and know a little about it. It does have a low oil pressure switch which might be the problem if either you have low oil, or the wrong grade of oil. Like the prior post said, do the simple stuff first. Change the oil and verify the correct grade is going into it. Possible that the oil pressure is fine until it heats up.
