I just received my letter from Thor on the step recall, here is what lippert says:
"Bolt may fracture from stress on the bolt caused by misuse of the steps, overloading,
collision or other outside influences
My steps broke this past summer and when I took them off to change the broken shoulder bolt I found that if you tighten the bolt all the way down against the shoulder it would bind up the fan gear. Lippert had backed off the shoulder about one complete turn and then they tack welded the end of the threads to keep it from backing off. Anyone that knows anything about shoulder bolts knows that you can not do this. I removed a washer from the assembly and tightened the new bolt all the way down against the shoulder. I think mine will be fine now but I will take in for the recall. Lippert acts like it is our fault do to misuse.
