New RVer - Just purchased a Winnebago Acess

Hello all - I am not sure this is where I should post this so forgive me if I am mixing stuff up!

Just wanted to say we had a super experience with Camping World of Houston, rep Don Dodge and sales manager 'Ray' and our walk thru expert 'Robb'.

Got a good solid deal and they were really attentive about everything in our purchase of a 2011 Winnegbago Access Premier 26QP. We had looked around at several places even traveling to MHS in Alvarado and finally purchased here, about 30 minutes from our home.

Parked tonight in my home's driveway so I hooked up to power with a 15AMP adapter to our 30AMP RV cord - wanted to fully charge the coach batteries. I've done a bit more research on RV electrical systems and specifically on the Winnebago line to find out the proper way to charge when plugged in to shore power with the Winnebago is to turn the Battery Disconnect OFF (meaning battery is disconnected). Good thing I researched that because the default with most other manufacturers Class C is the opposite - leave the battery disconnect position to on. (if you leave the battery connection/disconnection on they way the solenoid of the main chasis battery can deplete the house batteries on a Winnebago).

Anyway just wanted to intro myself and would appreciate any other 'tips' on RV electrics. At this point with a 30AMP MH it seems the only way we can run the A/C is when plugged directly into a camp sites 30AMP or have the generator running?

Lastly seems like it takes the Norcold fridge a long while to cool whilst the freezer seems to respond fairly quickly. I'm not on level ground in my home driveway and not sure if that is the issue. I spoke to a Winnebago employee at their HQ and they said you don't have to worry about fridges as much as people make out as they are not manufactured the way they used to be. He said the lines are more connected at angles now and said if you are comfy enough to walk in the unit its as level as it needs to be.

I would take the Winnebago statements on level as a very loose guide. Keep the RV as level as possible.
Freezer should get cold quickly. Fridge side may take up to 24 hours to get to proper temperature.

Yeah I was thinking level is a good habit to get into to eliminate possibilities.

And yes, left the fridge on Auto/Gas over night and it was nice an cool when I awoke. I've been told since that the fridge can take a GOOD while to cool down when cooling down from warm and with no fan/cold items in the fridge.

Just an update - they had me run the RV back in today at CW (I only live about half hour down the road) as I couldn't get the dinnette table down (lock bar was jammed somehow), they fixed that and also noticed with the gas detector going off every 20 seconds that it was possibly bad from the detailing people spraying over it and they installed a new one for us. It is a used RV so I appreciated they took care of it quickly and at no cost even though being Friday it was pretty busy there.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your Winnebago.

Are you familiar with The 12 Volt Side of Life? You may find it interesting and helpful.

I don't know of any way to run your A/C without being plugged into an outlet or have the generator running.

Enjoy your travels.

Thanks for the welcomes, congrats and replies.

Really happy with the RV and I am going through some nicks and nacks like everyone does. First the generator refuses to start unless you wait a good while from the last time you started and stopped it. It just chokes if you stop, then restart in like 5-10 minutes.

The dinette table won't come down to convert into a bed, etc., due to their being some sort of jam of the lock/positioning arm (sure we'll get this sorted out).

And yes I am going to get an estimate on the cost of installing a 30 amp or 50 amp receptacle here at home.

Pretty much. I have run our AC using a 15 amp adapter (cheater) but it melted it due to too much current pulling across it. AC draws a lot of power so it is best to have a 30 amp receptacle.

I installed one in my garage just for my RV.
