Removal of gas strut

I can’t figure out how to remove a strut that holds open one of the cargo doors. The legend on the strut looks like the cover should pop up and it should release. But I can’t get the cover to pop up.

Any suggestions? 2002 Winnebago sightseer.

Good idea. That will make them easier to rip off!

You could try spraying PB Blaster, WD40, etc on it the day before...might help.

I already had the bottom one unscrewed. It has to come off no mater what. Then I twisted the top one off. I then put the bottom metal piece in a vice and twisted it off without bending it. I think I have 2 or 3 more to replace. I really can't complain; they are 20 years old.

I think I found it!!!

JR products

JR Products EF-PS130 Gas Spring End Fitting with Snap-On Cap.

This might not be the exact model you have, but it's real close!

Take a closer look at the logo on your photo. My struts are something similar. I think "maybe" the cap is some sort of twist lock. Or does it lift up to release?

Do you have a better photo so we can read the info on that cap?

you are exactly right. Might be easier to remove the phillips screws and do it, Not hard to replace either

Unfortunately, mine aren't constructed like that. They have a plastic "cap" that looks like it should be pried up to release the ball. I tried to pry it off with a screw driver. I guess I need to pry harder! In the past I have just ripped them off, but in the process bent the holder.

On our Monaco there is a spring clip cover that we use a small flathead screwdriver to wedge loose. I have replaced a few of our cargo door struts and found them on Amazon, most struts are not model or brand specific, proper length and weight they can support is how we ordered them.
