restoring 1987 holaday Rambler

I have purchased a 1987 Motor home and am fixing it up as money is available. I have replaced the passenger side brake line and caliper and now have three wheels that lock up when you stomp on the breaks. This is much better then the one or two that were working on the harrowing drive home after the purchase.
The air pumps are being removed at this time as the driver side one is locked up. The passenger side one seems to be working, but there is a hole in the part mounted on the header that is causing a little ticking sound. The header parts will be welded up at a later date when I can bribe my people with a appropriate reward.
I have changed the passenger side spark plugs, the old ones had a gap of around 80 to 85 thousand when I took them out. They did have a nice tan color. The driver side plugs will be replaced next, along with the cap and rotor.
The front air bags are holding pressure, and the front suspension has been greased with new grease. It has some sort of stabilizer made from mounting two large springs on the front and rear of the lower control arm.
I will be asking some ???? when I get to the parts I don't under stand.

The sock on the fuel pump wasn't very clean.

If you take out the fuel pump, you might find problems like this hose that has been eaten through.

This is a shot of the main filler hose and where the vent hose goes. Duct tape fixes any thing I guess.

This is the hose that came off the output side of the regulator. I am surprised that darn thingy ran at all.

The coupling for the fuel tank harness, on goes to gauge, one goes to power the pump, and the third is a ground.

This is the old pressure regulator we removed from a crossmember under the Holiday Rambler. the hose with the fittings on it ran to the fuel tank, the output side is a .5 inch rubber hose that runs to a metal line that runs down the frame.

Here is a close up of the fuel ports on the top of the tank. If you tap on the ring, you can remove the pump unit from the tank. The one with the fitting on it goes to the regulator. One labeled thre goes to the return line, and the other is for the evaporation pollution control unit that has been removed.

This is the tank after removing it from the RV. My grandson is on the right.

I went to start the old thing so I could mow. After trouble shooting it to a problem with no fuel, we removed the gas tank. It has eight bolts holding the tank up. There are three fuel lines on the top, plus the filler, and vent hose you have to remove. you can get it out with out jacking the beast up. There is also a pressure regulator mounted to the frame we took off, so we can replace all the old rubber parts when we are doing the job.

My son came over last weekend and we replaced the capacitors in the front ac. The front AC is now blowing cold again. we put the same capacitors in the rear AC and nothing, it seems the rear AC only works if the generator is running. There are two AC power boxes under the large cabinets across from the bath room door.
one of them was getting no power.
We traced the wire back to where the generator is on the drivers side of the camper. by hooking a extension cord to this wire we got power to the unit. it still just makes a humming sound when we turn it on. guess we look at that later.

I am still doing some small stuff to it again. It sat for a long time due to getting two Kids out of the house and and one getting married. The grand kids have stayed it it a couple of time when it sits there.
I have just started to pressure wash the black mold of the outside so you can see the paint again.

Have an 87 HR also. Or did have when I put it in storage at RV lifestyles in Quartzsite.

Planning on fixing it up after sitting for 2 yrs. Then sell and looming to get into a pull trailer.

Just read through this thread. I have a 1987 Class A on the P30 chassis; I'm doing a fairly complete renovation on it as well. It was interesting to me as you were first working on the engine to see several differences on the chassis. Your charging system uses an external voltage regulator where mine is part of the alternator. I couldn't tell for sure, but the PS pump looks to be different. It was just a little surprising to see component differences on a fleet chassis in just one year.

I'm wondering if you have had the chance to do any more work to your Holiday Rambler, or have had the opportunity to go camping.

I just pulled all the components of the AIR smog system and the miles of associated vacuum lines off when I put a new Edelbrock Performer 2.0 intake and a new quadrajet. I had an aluminum roof that was in much worse shape than yours; that was my first big fix before gutting the inside down to the studs.

I have to work on it as I can as well.

Hope your roof has been holding up
