Shock treatment process?

After trying to Diagnose a fuel distribution problem, one of the recommendations was to look at the fuel filters. The Water Sep filter with the plastic bowl had a lot of sediment(rust looking) and a glob of goo. It has been recommended the clogged filter can cause the problem I am having. So I am going to change the filters

It was also recommended that I do shock treatment and I am looking for a opinion/experiences of the process in which to do the shock.

shock the fuel....
replace filters, drive time, replace filters again. what to look for etc.

which additive to use
diesel kleen, bioKleen or Clear diesel , or something else?

Thanks for all the help

Really I don't have a clue but, The place where I retired from(driving trucks) we used to have a problem with cross over lines (that really was a cross under line for both tanks to equalize each other) would get clogged at the 90 degree bend and also not uncommon for some guy to close the valve to play joke on buddy. When someone would "run out of fuel" maybe wouldn't get all air out of system and run like misfiring. Also had couple that valve was in open position but valve really wasn't open because ball valve fell apart inside the tee. Replaced those with brass faucet type and when those go bad they start to leak from top giving clue to replace them.
I see from your name "tuner" if somebody put in a "tuner" or (chipped)you might want to swap it out with stock to make sure it is not the after market tuner or chip. Some of them has caused problems and hard to trouble shoot rest equipment with them in. Back to cross over lines... We lost only 1 to road trash over the years.

thats ok I think I have figured it out:
after randomly talking with a current diesel tech about why I want to replace the filters we got to talking about the fuel issue and from my conversation with him these trucks have had 3 different types of fuel distribution system.

1) the cross over system you speak of is one of them and the oldest and simplest. As you stated a simple hose going from left to right tank to equal the fuel due to basic hydraulics. Pro: no moving parts easy to access and maintain
con: cloged elbo's
failed ball valve, if installed
pesky co workers:)
and something on the road reaching up and grabbing the line since it is only a foot or so off the ground

2) This system is the one I have and a solution put out by Ford to remove the possible low lying fuel line hazard.
this the system I have and that is a Tee system supply and return
the supply is a simple Tee with -10 an fittings that has no restrictions and it will pull fuel from both tanks equally unless a line has become clogged
the return Tee is the new engineered piece the inlet has 2 small holes leading to the left and right port of the tee where the fuel is distributed equally left and right. Here is where I learned my experience lesson from the Tech, and the failure of this system. there is no level sensing system from left to right! It doesnt care how much fuel is in each tank it just puts it back equally. so if for some reason, like a geneator being run off of one tank, it will run you out of diesel as the Tech said"it doesnt give a **** and most of the time it didnt work":)

3rd system is the newest and as the Tech stated also " this one is piece of $h*t and never work even when new and is stupid expensive to fix"

so I am trying to do the simple repairs first(filters) next will be the restricted Tee. all the time watching how the truck transfers fuel, unfortunately I can't put a basic cross over line due to the exhaust being right in the way so I might install a manual ball valve on the right tank so that fuel will only be returned to the tank that the generator is on.

will keep all posted and thanks for the info

A- Most all work if you follow directions

I use biokleen, since 2003 no problems. Very good instructions on bottle.
Fuel and clean air are lifeblood of diesel. Filters are first to change out.

Keep a spare (set) of Fuel filters with you at all times, never know when you'll get some bad fuel. Although never happen to me.
Think of "shock treatment" as a double dose of alge killer.
Diesel parts are very expensive. So clean fuel saves $$ in long run. What or why do you think you have a "fuel dist" problem? Has problem just started or have you just bought?

I have a f650 with duel tanks and the cat 3126
I have run out of diesel twice now cause when I run the Genny for a period of time lowering the left tank level then go drive the fuel will not equal out left to right.....check out my other post and you will see the wwhole explanation so I don't have to write it all over again:)

thanks for the info though
