Winnebago View/Navion Options

There were no View or Navion 24G built the way we want at any dealer across the country, so it would have to be ordered. Too late for the 2017 model year and any special order will be a 2018. In addition to a 2.5% price increase, there are some changes in the option list. I was told that the standard dash radio that also serves as rear view monitor, is no longer available and the "Infotainment GPS" is now standard. The confusing part is that I see one 'Infotainment/GPS" system option #15D listed for $1,666 and a #152 listed for $2,555. Information I read seems to say that one main difference is one has a 6" screen and the other 9". It isn't so much that it seems like that could be better spent on other options, but that radio for me is overkill having features I will never use. The previous standard radio was a Pioneer having all features I would need to connect to my phone for navigation and communication. I looked it up and found one at the store to try out. Quite capable and easy to use.

The dealers load up the RVs with many of the available options, each has a profit margin of it's own. I can understand the motivation there; that being said, I could not find one with the right combination of options to even start considering a deal. I have found many dealers very reluctant to special order and any adjustments to the MSRP reflects that. The best deals were reserved for what is on the lot. Now that the special order includes a diesel generator upgrade, full body paint and of course the not-so-optional radio, the skids have been greased pretty well.

I was told by several sources that so few if any standard in dash radios have been delivered that Winnebago decided to drop it in favor of the premium radio. Upgraded speakers are still optional. Anybody know if this is true? In addition to showing me what is behind the RV, will that fancy radio manage my investments, prepare my tax returns and cook breakfast for me as well? When I see some bacon and hash browns on my plate, I will be impressed.

We just ordered our Navion 24G yesterday. The dealer had 4 2017 on the lot, so we noticed the base MSRP between 2017 and 2018 was about 10%. The Infotainment radio went from a 2017 $1650 +/- to $2600+/-. Crazy increases. After much consideration, we figured just do it and get it over with and loaded the 24G to the gills. MSRP in the $162K territory. Shocking, but loading the options, also gets you into bigger discounts. We ended up with a loaded coach, at a reasonable price with over 30% off MSRP.

The price increase was applied to the base price of the Navion. In this case, the increase is $3,144. The 2017 option list prices were used to complete the build sheet. The dealer called Winnebago to get prices so that a deal on a custom order can be presented. When the new RV is delivered, the actual prices from Winnebago will be on the window sheet. Having been to my share of RV shows and RV dealers, my take on the 20% jump is the salesperson telling you that they would rather clear out the inventory they already have.

My Winnebago Class A Vista's radio display rear/side view cameras was so useless I bought a separate small monitor on eBay that I was able to actually aim at me so it was usable. The display was only about $40 dollars. The radio aimed straight back making the screen nothing but glare.

I built a little black plastic shield, velcro'd it to the smooth parts of the radio, and adjusted it so that the glare was gone. The radio/GPS is hopeless without removing the glare. If I find the angle is impossible, will break out the old Garmin.

That brings up another concern of mine that I am trying not to get too excited about. In my '09 Navion, the display for the camera is mounted where the rear view mirror would be. Very nice, serving as rear view when driving and a backup monitor that allowed me to park within an inch of any obstacle or wall. The screen was adjustable to suit the driver. With radio monitor screens pointed straight back, I do not see this as a step forward. Glare and poor contrast. This is a similar problem in just about every car that has an integrated backup camera attached to the radio. Many LCD screens are notorious for poor off axis viewing.
