Well if LBligh weren't pressing the point so obstinately I doubt the group would have gotten as far down the road as it appears so far.

I am not sure why I have read all 21 pages of this thread without posting until now.

Yes, as you read my post, I am also concerned with this and that is why I am requesting this in black and white from Mark Zimmerman who is the head of The Revenue and Fuel Tax Administration. And I thought the main subject is "fuel tax". Geeez who's side are you on in this discussion. I understand being cautious and wanting the facts or truth, but your negative attitude that I get from your posts is not helping us get to the real meaning of this law.

Rant over.

Here we go again. Can you read? What I said was exactly " However, it is interesting that Zimmerman is not shown as the Director or Assistant Director for any department within the Arizona Department of Transportation. I did find his name in the total state employee directory, but no title was shown. If he is an Administrator as indicated above, he may or may not be an authority to publish anything.

Ok guys. I just got off the phone with Mark Zimmerman, Senior Division Administrator (the top dog). He is understanding that the pump sticker and the law wording is not very clear. Mark told me that the way he reads the law is that ALL privately owned RVs are exempt from paying the higher fuel tax. His reasoning is that a "use fuel vehicle" is a vehicle used for commerce or hire, including a "passenger carrying" vehicle. I told him that even in his own office, other people are interpreting this law differently. Mark said that he would have meeting with them and get everyone on the same track. Also, he said that he would come up with some kind of "legal" wording to email me to satisfy any DOT officer and the rest of us who may still question his determination of this law. All I know for now, but at least I will feel a little better when I go to fill my coach at our local fuel station.

OUTSTANDING WORK! Lets hope he actually does it now. Bligh, however, iS going to need to call Zimmerman and tell him he's wrong!

Not true. If he will put it in writing and has the authority to do so, it will work for me and I will be glad to see it. However, it is interesting that Zimmerman is not shown as the Director or Assistant Director for any department within the Arizona Department of Transportation. I did find his name in the total state employee directory, but no title was shown. If he is an Administrator as indicated above, he may or may not be an authority to publish anything. If/when he does publish something, we can then see what department he actually works for and if the Director for the department approves? Who knows. Been down this road before.

She said she was calling quite a few more people that had inquired asking the same question.

Alright! Now I feel that we are getting to the bottom of this and the correct answer. Mark Zimmerman said it would probably be a few days to get something in print. Would need to have a meeting or two, but it was going to be high on the priority list.

Jlabr2,
I talked to a lady from his office. Same bottom line answer but sounds like different reasoning. She wouldn't discuss passenger carrying vehicles. Also no paperwork to confirm our conversation.

It is great you got the call from the boss. Please post a copy of the email so we can all copy and carry.

You the man.

Finally.
I got a call from ADOT. I was told directly from the Director Office of the the fuel tax that, the Director himself had reviewed my question and tho it is not specifically written private RVs over 26k are exempt from the 26ยข use fuel tax and are to pay the 18ยข light vehicle fuel tax.
I was given many reasons basically because we have a declared weight of zero, they are private, and they are used for living in same as a home.

So we have our official answer. Unfortunately they can send nothing to reference because it is specifically not written but compiled from various sections of the statues. Mainly zero declared gross weight.

Lbligh, that's fine and apology accepted. We got hung up on semantics. I could have expressed "RV class license" more specifically in accordance to ADOT statute language.

Hopefully AZ will respond to our many requests for clarification. So far I have heard zip.
Thing is it is not so much about the 8ยข, it is about wanting to comply to the law.
