Another malicious site, like FBI is Blocking Browser

This says "YOUR BROWSER HAS BEEN BLOCKED security-scan-8814.in". All I do is hit Ctrl Alt Delete and end process. I didn't run into any problems beyond that. I check my machine & go to Control Panel > Programs and Features. I don't find anything wrong. I immediately end task. So, nothing gets downloaded to my machine.

Do these sites with these error messages cause any problems you can't see or detect?

The FBI MoneyPak ransomware Malware is browser based, that's been around for years. Here's the real FBI notice about the scam.

If you have Javascript enabled when re-directed to the above "fake" website, it will lock up your browser, forcing you to stay on the page. Ending your active browser process is one way to kill it as you did. This site appears to be more scareware than anything else.

Though using an India domain, the site appears to be hosted in Russia.

In 2013 there were an average of 82,000 new malware threats per day.

Well.. I have long suspected the professional companies of shall we say "Seeding the Mine" that is releasing mostly harmless but still virus programs to the web... Got confirmation on one of them (Though my informant claims another "Would never do that", I remain professionally paranoid about statements like that, If one did,, Nobody will ever convince me others do not)

I might have bought into that maybe 20 years ago when new viruses came out at a rate of 1 a week. But there are new malware variants out at the rate of thousands a week. So many that none of the A/V-anti-malware companies can keep up with them (which is why you need more than anti-malware software). There are criminally owned companies in Russia and elsewhere that, for a fee, will test new malware against all the current anti-malware software and enterprise security appliances to certify that it will be effective in in infecting you PC. Malware and Advanced Persistent Threats are mostly proliferated by criminal organizations as well governments like China and Russia.

To learn more, a good blog to read is Krebs on Security. He's highly respected by security professionals and hated by Russian and Ukrainian criminals.

Yes, something could have downloaded in the background. Malware is very sophisticated these days. It can be running on your machine and you'd never know it. Very often the malware is just a mechanism used to infect the machine with something far more malicious like a keylogger or a root kit.

Anti-Malware software will miss a lot of stuff. As said, run MalwareBytes. But you can do more to protect yourself in the future. Best of all this stuff is all free.

Remove Malware Magnets - Goes for both Windows and MAC
  • JAVA โ€“ just get rid of it. Very few people need it for anything. Remove all versions of JAVA in Programs and Features.
  • Flash player - If you really need it for some YouTube videos and other things, make sure to keep it up to date with the latest version
  • Adobe Reader (replace with PDF XChange Viewer or similar, http://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer)

Use Open DNS http://www.opendns.com/
  • Free web and malware filtering for home users for Windows, MAC, Android, iOS
  • Intended to be a "net nanny" for families, but anyone can benefit from this
  • Automatically blocks known identity theft and phishing websites
  • Nothing to install on your machines
  • Set up your home router with OpenDNS and all your DHCP devices are protected
  • Highly configurable, many built in categories, can allow or deny specific URLs as needed

Use Bluecoat K9 http://www1.k9webprotection.com/
  • Free web and malware filtering for home users, for Windows, MAC, Android, iOS
  • Uses the same engine and database as their commercial security appliances use
  • Intended to be a "net nanny" for families, but anyone can benefit from this
  • Automatically blocks known scam, spyware, and malware websites
  • Must install software on each device, doesn't slow down the device
  • Highly configurable, many built in categories, can allow or deny specific URLs as needed, however must be configured on each device

RogueKiller http://www.adlice.com/softwares/roguekiller/
Free malware/rootkit scanner
Windows only

Secunia PSI (Personal Software Inspector) http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/
Free
Windows only
Scans all your installed software and reports what's out of support, what's missing security patches, and what's up to date

Anything is possible. However the problem may already exist on you system. If it were me I'd do a full scan with your AV and download Malwarebytes Anti-malware install the free version, update it and scan your computer.
Malwarebytes Download Site

If you are not comfortable and would like more detailed instructions I strongly recommend that you go to SevenForums Join the group, it's free. To get the proper assistance you will need to complete the "System Specs" when you join. I would then post your question in the System Security section I am assuming that your OS is Windows 7.

There are lots of IT professionals from around the world that freely give of their time to assist with problems.
