Looking at a 2005 Honda CRV to tow behind Motorhome. It bass
122,000 miles and set up to tow. Person said 2/3 of the miles are towed miles. Does the CRV ring up miles when towing. I did not think it did?

Not that it matters at this point but, I have a 1999 Honda CRV. It does rack up miles while being towed. It has 165.000 miles on it now and runs perfect. I plan to keep it pretty much for the rest of my life. IMHO the only thing you need to do is start it at every gas stop and run the transmission through the gears. I just leave it hooked up to the RV and hold the brake while selecting the gears (automatic, 4x4). I do drain and fill the transmission about once a year. That's just 3 quarts but, it keeps the fluid looking good and red. Only allow Honda transmission fluid to be used in your CRV. Otherwise, the CRV can be towed for very many miles.

I got a flyer from Camping World recently that had a special $29.00 installation going on. Check them out and see if its still on. I had them do my crv when they had a special, saved some bucks and they did a super job. they do lots of them.
Good luck on your new toad, you will really enjoy it. Remember, have a charge line or a fuse disconnect switch installed.
I did my own fuse disconnect switch which works great. for about $12.00 bucks or so, I will post the thread.

We'll bought a new 2013 instead of the 2014. Got $3250 off price and weather floor mats throughout. Drives great. Now to buy a baseplate.

Nice toad and good decision. I came from a 2004 crv to a 2013 crv which is the same as your 2014 you will soon have.
The newer crv's have much more hidden parasitic battery loads on them than my prior crv did.
Your battery WILL go dead if towing it more than a few hours, so a radio fuse disconnect switch or a battery charge line is a must.
Just a heads up. I love mine and now have about 6800 miles driven and about 4500 miles being towed and its been perfect.
Good choice.

Cars that had cable driven odometers would register while towing.

This applies to the Honda and most cars that can be technically flat-towed. But many years ago we towed a Toyota Celica four-down and the mileage did register on the odometer. Other than that, it towed very nicely, even though it wasn't supposed to be towed.

You can't make the odometer turn by towing. Period. I towed mine once with the engine running (accidentally) and the odometer did not register. Evidently has to be in drive.

There should be no towed miles registered on the odometer. The seller either 1.Is lying, or 2.Has been towing it incorrectly. In either case, walk away.

If correct, the CRV you are looking at has about 200,000 plus or so over the road miles. Driving and being towed.
The CRV is a great toad, but there are crv's in that year range with far less miles.
Check out the Camping World special now going on. $29.00 installation.
I would Get the price of my favorite tow bar set up and proceed with the total tow bar cost in mind plus car and compare to the one you are looking at.

Since that person obviously lied to you as the towed miles do not show on the odometer, I would find another vehicle from an honest seller.

Does that mean only 40,000 on the odometer and another 80,000 towed. If towed correctly the towed miles do not accumulate on the odometer. And yes, manual says to change trans fluid every 30,000 miles if being towed.

My 2003 reads 120,000 on the odometer but would show another 65,000 (185,000 total) if it registered all miles, towed and not towed.

It does not add miles. It was also supposed to have the trans fluid changed every 30000 miles. I personally would find one that hasn't been towed and pay the money to add a baseplate.
