Hi Folks,

New Winnebago View 24M. Pulled a 5er for over a decade. We want to be able to tow our 4WD Wrangler. Need suggestions on tow bar, baseplate, and supplemental breaking. I want EASY and safe to use.

Also, from what I can guess, I will need to have the jeep key in accessory mode, so the front wheels are not locked. I assume the connection from hot connection on coach to toad will keep battery from dying.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I don't think the 2014 Wrangler has a steering lock. My 2012 Wrangler doesn't have a steering lock. The Wrangler uses a smart key. I have manual trany. 4wd in neutral. trany in 2nd and turn off ignition. I use a charge line with a diode so Wrangler battery doesn't feed back into MH.

Your new Jeep Wrangler does not have steering lock. Just pull the key and go!

My Jeep Wrangler is a 2002. I think this style lasted until about 2010, but yours is the newer style. On the older style you can open up the steering column and take out the lock pin. I was told the newer jeeps didn't have pins, but that's only second hand info.

The same with the rear lights. On the older style jeep with the large rectangular rear lights you can buy a kit from Road Master to mount separate bulbs inside of the tail lights. This eliminates hooking into the Jeep's electrical system, diodes and so on. You never have to worry about a dead battery with that set up. You might call them to see if they have a kit for the newer jeeps. What it comes down to is if there's room and a place to mount an extra tail light bulb.

My 2014 Wrangler was a relatively easy bolt on with Demco. I use the RVI2 brake in both of my toads. Amazon has Demco products and are very inexpensive.

I use a Roadmaster, works well, it's simple and easy to connect or disconnect.

What year is your Jeep? There are different ways to handle the steering lock pin and tail lights.

I bought my towbar and front piece on Craig's list. Bought the baseplates for my particular Jeep from the local RV dealer.

Check the baseplate installation instructions for each manufacturer to pick the most secure baseplate.

ReadyBrute Elite tow bar/surge brake is your best bet.

Unless you run a charge line, nothing will keep your car battery charged. That is not part of the normal setup. You can either disconnect the battery, remove a fuse (possibly), or run a charge line. The charge line can be either through the umbilical or separate.
