Towing Jeep Wrangler

I'm thinking about buying a 2014 Jeep Wrangler for towing behind my motorhome. I have the part of a blue ox towing system that goes on the motorhome. Is there anyway to use that to tow the Wrangler without having to purchase the part that goes on the vehicle? The wrangler has two tow hooks mounted to the front bumper and I would like to use those instead of having to purchase the regular part for the car and have to pay to have it installed.
Thanks all.

Thanks everybody for the help. I was trying to save some money, but after reading all the posts thats not the way to go. I'll be calling Blue Ox tomorrow and also checking around for a used base plate.
Since I haven't purchased the Jeep yet, I was unaware of the restrictions on the front hooks. Glad I asked before I did something dumb and endangered other people on the roads.
This is such a great forum. Thanks again everyone!

I have a JKUR with an aftermarket bumper with d-ring mounts. I recently bought this product d-ring adaptersand it works pretty well and eliminates the need for a base plate on the jeep.

On another note, the hooks on the front bumper, which i have since removed because i replaced the bumpers, were bolted into a SOLID metal frame, not sheet metal. My after market bumper actually uses those same holes to mount it.

When did wranglers do away with the frame????????

The cheap pressed sheet metal they call a frame really isn't. take a look at how the tow bar is attached you'll understand.

I have a TJ and know what that frame is. As far as I know the JK body also bolts onto a steel frame, which is where they mount the tow hooks.

A Compass or Patriot is a different story

I have a Wrangler Unlimited. I'm going with the Roadmaster MX base plate, Blue Ox Aventa tow bar and Blue Ox towbar to Roadmaster bracket adapter. The Roadmaster MX base plate is very low key.

From my 2014 Wrangler owners manual.
Emergency Tow hooks; Caution
Tow hooks are for emergency use only, to rescue a vehicle stranded off road. Do not use tow hooks for tow truck hookup or highway towing. You could damage your vehicle.
This was taken from p. 110.

terryb149.....

Some suggestions.... A) Don't skimp on the towbar and installation. When you are rolling down the road at 60mph, you don't want to have to worry about it..... especially at night. And if there is an accident, the insurance company will inspect the hookup with a fine tooth comb. If there is a liability issue, you want your insurance company backing you up. Also, some states are pretty picky about how the toads are hooked up to the motorhome. Don't risk it trying to save a few dollars.

B) Try calling a few of the camping clubs in your area. Usually someone has changed motorhomes and/or toads, and have a complete system laying around and will sell it very reasonably. Also check the want ads in the newspaper and/or the camping magazines. Be careful that it has not been in a wreck and damaged somewhere. Try one of the service shops that installs towbars...... they may have one that they took off someone's toad. Try to stay with "Blue Ox" or "Roadmaster".

C) Since you have a Jeep (as I do), you will do some off-roading. When they put the base plate on the front of your Jeep, have them put a 2" hitch (2" sleeve) on the front of your Jeep (very simple matter). That way, if you ever get "hung up" you can put your portable winch on the front or the rear of your Jeep. (very handy).

Just some suggestions...... good luck!

U just MUST get a proper base plate. Blue Ox web site will recommend some if U ask. If U'r even basically handy with basic tools(socket wrench)its not hard to install. Took me about 2 hours on my 2012 Wrangler Sport and I usually screw up everything. lol

only if you can figure out how to securely connect your jeep to the MH with a rigid tow bar.

you can't just use chains as you won't be able to stop the jeep when you stop and turning will be a disaster waiting to happen. you need a rigid tow bar that will do all this. if you can modify a tow bar to *securely* fasten to the tow hooks and you're confident it won't come off and will otherwise be safe for you to tow and for me when i'm following or passing you in either direction then sure, why not?
