2005 Chalet Alpine shower - question

Hi - we've just bought the trailer and haven't used it yet. It has a water heater and an outside shower. The people we bought it from never hooked up to a campground water supply, they just used water from the 15-gal. water tank. We're wondering if we can use the shower when hooked up to an external water supply. Will the water still get heated? How does that work?
We're asking mostly out of curiosity, since we wouldn't use it at a campsite that has showers.

So if we're hooked up to an external water supply, will the water still get heated? Does the heater tank take in cold water as it is being used? And the only time we need the water pump on is if we're draining water from the water tank?

Yes, yes, and yes.

The water connection or the water pump will work essentially the same since they are plumbed together.
