AC loudly rumbles for several minutes after going off

I have a 2010 Coachmen Freedom Express travel trailer and the roof top ac unit has always worked fine, but recently it's been sounding more labored at times. Today when the ac unit turns off it continues to make a loud labored sound for several minutes with no air blowing. It'll eventually go off, but comes on by itself to do the same thing again even if the unit is turned off. The only way I can make it quit this is by flipping the breaker. I'm not sure if it's the compressor, and I'm hoping it's not a major issue because it's almost summer and I can't afford a fix right now. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks in advance.

Yes- that is bad. The compressor is overheating and the overload is shutting it off. It's not good to run it like that.

Sounds like the relay on the control board is sticking closed. Fix would be replacing the board, or finding someone who will replace the relay on the board- easy, but requires soldering.

Thank you for the answer. I have no knowledge about this, but even if it's not continually staying on do you think that'd be the answer too? The unit stays on, then rumbles off, comes back on, rumbles off again, etc etc, all while it's in the off position and not blowing anything .
