Issues with the slide on my 2004 Terry Quantum

I have a 2004 Terry Quantum camper. Currently I am having issues with my slide. I've been able to find very little information on this camper online and when I called customer service they said the manufacture went out of business in 2009 so the guy was only able to give me advice based on his general knowledge of campers.

The problem is, my slide has been closing itself, and it's very hit or miss on whether or not I can get it to go back out. I've returned home from work a few times to find my slide has partially or fully closed itself, running over everything in the way. After some coaxing, I've been able to get it to go back out, but it seems to only work when it wants. I can't locate a manual crank for moving the slide.

So far I've tried removing the fuse that controls the slide on the indoor fuse box, which worked for a few days until I came home and the slide was in again. I also tried removing the in-line fuse from the battery, which also did not work. Right now, I've taped down the 'out' button on the slide switch which (knock on wood) is working so far. The times that the slide started to close itself when I was home, pushing the out button would make it stop moving, although it didn't necessarily make the slide reverse course and go out.

I've tried to locate more fuses but have not been successful so far. I've looked in the battery box, in cabinets and under the sink, and not found anything. I've also tried to locate the actual slide motor to see if maybe it's an issue of partially frayed wires, but I can neither pinpoint exactly where the motor is, nor am i seeing anything underneath that looks like the wires are frayed or separated.

With the 'out' button currently taped down, I'm still getting movement from the slide motor. The slide itself isn't moving but the motor makes this quick jerking sound and movement at intermittent times. It sounds as if I was quickly pressing and releasing the button on the slide control. This was happening before I taped down the button as well. The fact that this is happening makes me think that having the button taped down is the only reason that the slide hasn't closed itself again.

I'm completely stumped and my internet searches aren't turning up anything useful. I've had my father-in-law helping me try to figure out this problem (from a distance) and I also had one of the handy men at the RV park come take a look. Neither have been able to pinpoint the problem or find a solution.

I'm hoping maybe there's someone here who's experienced the same problem and figured out the solution that might be able to help me out with this. Or just someone who's a general RV genius. At this point I'd settle for a total disconnect/disabling of the slide motor, but I do plan on moving the camper from time to time so being able to reconnect or use a manual crank would be ideal.

If pulling the fuse isn't working, it sounds like a problem with the "in" relay if there is one. Without seeing a schematic, the fuse probably only sends power to the switch which then sends a signal to the relay. The relay must be getting power from a different supply with its own fuse. Taping down the switch may burn out the motor or the "out" relay, so I wouldn't do that.

It sounds too easy, but replacing the switch might be an inexpensive option to try.

I have never had this problem, but you are right to be asking someone who has experienced a similar problem.

Hope you find a fix,
Jerry
