I have an Outback 298RE (2013 model), and it's been an absolutely fabulous trailer. I hand only one warranty issue, that got fixed with no questions asked. After that, I've never had any problems or troubles with it.
I did get new tires a couple years ago, and I did turn on the water heater (electric) with no water in it and burned up the element. We installed some extra towel racks, removed some of the stand-alone furniture and replaced with something different, installed a second television, and replaced the living room television (which is now in our bedroom in our house), for a different one. But as far as any "troubles" with this camper ... none! nada! not a bit!
Outbacks are well built. If you are happy with the floor plan, it should serve you well for many years to come. Just keep those wheel bearings repacked every couple years and treat the seals on the slide out, lube the gear mechanism on the slide once a year, and check your roof a couple times a year too (never have done anything to the roof yet, except wash it). If you do these very simple preventative maintenance items, you'll have great success with the Outback.
By the way, we keep our plugged into electric 24x7x365. It's parked at home and from late March-early April till November, we sleep in it (almost) every night, keep it filled with water, and am able to dump the black and grey tanks at home via the house septic tank. In other words, our Outback gets used almost every day for 5 years now, and it's still 100% trouble free!
Ours has traveled from Indiana to Florida several times, other trips to South Carolina and back several times. It's been to South Dakota, another trip to Kansas, Another trip to Southern Missouri, another trip to Iowa, several trips to Kentucky and Tennessee. And still tows magnificent.
I did have a battery cable corrode (the black one) and had to replace it because the round thing connected to the wire that goes over the battery terminal broke off. I think that has been the only failure since we bought it.
You are getting a good camper. Take good care of it, and don't let the kids rough-house in it!
