Hey all, so this week we fixed the truck issue we had(1/2 ton v6 that wouldn't haul squat, went to 3/4 ton) now we are down to 2 trailers and cant decide.

1) Coachman freedom express liberty edition 320bhds
2) Jayco Jay Flight 32bhds

Any thoughts? Also we were originally looking at stuff around 6k pounds, now these both are around 7800, new tow capacity is 13k so I assume should pull like a breeze....

What? My trailer brakes awesome from the factory.

Nothing wrong with the setup of the brakes themselves. I'm referring to a problem I had with the wires running through the axles. It's a common problem to have to wire chafe inside of the axle or at one of the exists. This eventually causes a short which causes braking problems. In my case one of the brake wires chafed at one exit because of a missing grommet and another chafed pretty badly inside one of the axles. Normally something that you hear of after a few years in service, but in my case it happened rather quickly. Since the majority of trailer out there share the same design, you see it across the board.

That's disgusting. I am going to check mine out to see where it drains to.

We have the 310BHDS and love it. The only issues we've had was with the braking system. We upgraded the brake wiring to solve a braking problem, but that's more of an industry wide problem. Other than that the trailer is very well made and hasn't given us any problems. We've had our for 9 months or so and we use it fairly frequently.

We bought a Jay Flight 32BHDS and traded it in for a 33RBTS. There were a number of things about the 32BHDS that we didn't like, notably the dump valves under the slides. The 33RBTS Isn't perfect, but we are happier with it.

This is one minor complaint I have about the 32 BHDS. The gray tank valve is under the front slide, but the black tank valve is under the water heater/electric/city water hook up, fairly easy to get to. One other thing is I wish the outdoor kitchen had its own gray tank, and didn't dump into the black tank.... But we have been ok so far, even on a 5 night trip with sewer h/u..... I still need to come up with a handle to open/close the gray tank to make it easier.

We looked at the 32 IBTS I think it was, but we didn't like the possible awning/slide issue, and my wife didn't like the curtain vs sliding door for the bunk room. Also considered the 28 BHBE, but my wife liked the extra room the 32 BHDS has.

Your outdoor kitchen dumps into the blank tank??

Yes it does!!! Didn't know that until we went and picked the trailer up....other than a quick wash of hands or cooking utinsels we don't use it that much.

Guess it helps prevent a lack of water in the black tank.... That is a positive!!!

FYI, Jayco was just bought by Thor Industries and I think Coachman uses more sophisticated build materials and techniques.

We ended up buying from Terry Town. I tried to keep the money local by going to Tradewinds in Clio, but when they said $200 for an extra set of scissor jacks, and about $700 for a custom rear hitch (but could do the bumper mount for about $100) when I specifically asked for the factory Jayco rear cargo hitch price, plus the 32 was about $1500 higher with the smaller a/c and they wouldn't budge anymore, we drove a little. Even tried going through Hamiltons, but they weren't as willing to deal either....

I will have to dig up exactly what our msrp was, and what we paid for you to compare. Send me a msg with what Gillette's is asking.

Our price also included the Reese Dual Cam with a 2.5" Titan shank. I will look for it tmrw when I have a chance. I think I still have the text.... Maybe anyway! Lol Otherwise I will dig into our paperwork.

We have been in the market recently for a new rig, and are not brand-loyal.

With that said, we looked at both, and I would go with the Coachmen any day over the Jayco. We looked at new Jayco trailers at Camping World and were shocked at how bad the fit and finish looked on them compared to the competitors at a nearby dealership.

Jayco touts the two-year warranty, but Forest River offers a second-year warranty on its trailers for $150. We got it on our Rockwood. Honestly, I don't know why they don't make it standard.

We have also looked at Open Range (Highland Ridge, a subsidiary of Jayco, but independently managed), who also offers a two-year warranty, and they are far better than the Jayco brand, and on par or slightly better than Coachmen, IMO.
