Going to Banff/Jasper areas soon from WA. What inexpensive options are out there for WIFI? I was looking at Boingo, but read a lot of bad reviews... Verizon doesn't offer any economical options...

Yes, the library in Banff at the back of the shopping centre offers free wifi - just go in and ask for the password. There is an RV parking lot just outside so we were able to access the library wifi from or RV using our WiFi Ranger.

In Lake Louise, there is a little cafe Javalanche Cafe, next to the Husky gas station that offers free wifi. The signs say 15 minutes for free, but it did not seem to shut us off. The cafe has 8 stools to sit on, and sells coffee, pastries, soup and sandwiches. Be sure to buy something; the soup was very good. Wifi was pretty fast; we are using it now.

When I asked at the LL visitor center, they only suggested the post office which provides wifi for $5 a day. LL visitor center does not seem to offer it. And of course the hotels, but we were staying at the LL park campground.

The library in Jasper offers free wifi access. I am on it now.

they are open M-Th 10 am to 8 pm, F-Sat 10 - 5. closed Sunday and holidays (labor day). They are in a temp location under the ice arean bleachers, 20 or so chairs to sit in.

Bring your laptop, but I think they have a few computers available for short usage. Slow, but find for email and simple surfing. Forget downloads, slower than dial up.

Also the visitor center in Jasper has free wifi, but it is very busy place with almost no place to sit. They may open earlier, but close at 7:30. The staff told me they turn wifi off shortly after they close. They are open Sundays.

There is also a cafe in Jasper that has a sign saying 20 minutes hi speed internet for $2. I did not look into that.

I also read the library in Banff offers free wifi, but have not been there yet.

I haven't found anything on the internet about free wifi in lake louise. Some hotels mention free wifi in their lobbies, but this very likely may be limited to guests. Perhaps the visitor center?

The area is so beautiful, you likely won't want to spend too much time on the internet anyway.

Several years ago I paid for a wifi password from a shop in the small mall at Lake Louise. Their main business was renting computers to backpacking travelers (many from Europe or Asia).

WiFi is tricky in the mountains. Do you need it all the time, or just to check the net once or twice a day?

It used to be that the Fairmont Hotels had open wifi in their lobbies. Or you can join the Presidents club (Free) to log into wifi while in the hotels.

As others have suggested fast food places generally have open wifi.

Unlikely to have any wifi or much in the way of cell coverage between towns.
