HIGHWAYS UPDATE 13:15h June 26, 2013: Parks Canada Opens Trans-Canada Highway for 2-Lane Traffic from Town of Banff to Park's East Gate

The Trans-Canada Highway re-opened at 3:30 pm today east of the town of Banff, for both private and commercial vehicles. Due to the repairs still underway, the highway will be reduced to single-lane traffic in each direction for 12 kilometres between the park's East Gate and the turn-off to the town of Banff. The rest of the Trans-Canada Highway through Banff National Park (west of the Town of Banff) remains a divided highway with 4-lane traffic.

At 3:30 pm today, Alberta Transportation reopened the Trans-Canada Highway east of the park, at Canmore, in both directions. With the 2-lane detour now open in the park, private and commercial traffic may travel between Golden and Calgary. Commercial traffic is also now permitted on Highway 93 South between Castle Junction and Radium.

That's good to see as Hwy #5 has been a bloody zoo since the floods on #1, all you see is trucks between Clearwater and Kamloops and a lot of them shouldn't be allowed on the road, Bloody New Canucks. I spent 50 yrs out there and would not want to be on the road now with them.
98 Mountain Aire 34' 210 Cummins Puller and 2001 dodge dully with all the toy's, 400 + hp pullin a 2001 32.5' Okanogan 5th wheel, new to us after 5 yrs with the 28' Travel Aire. Lots of fun.
