Hi everyone. We need advice on the best route to take. In a couple weeks. We will be pulling a 2930rl from Dodge City, KS to Bend Oregon. The shortest route takes us from Dodge City up to Fort Collins. North of Fort Collins, we take 287 to Laramie, WY. At Laramie, we take 80 to Salt Lake City then turn off on 84 to go around SLC until we get to 15. We take 15 north to Ontario, OR then take 20 into Bend. Anyone taken this route? How are the elevations? Grades? Any advice? Also, recommendations for places to stay and eat would be appreciated. Thanks!

That route hits some serious elevation changes, especially around Laramie and into Utah. Be prepared for some steep grades, especially towing. I'd strongly suggest checking road conditions before you go, especially if there's any chance of snow. TripAdvisor might help with food.

I have driven that route 5 times. Never again. Three time I was stranded in Laramie, WY. Once for 3 days. It’s beautiful there but the weather is so unpredictable. It’s at a high elevation with vert high winds. Road closures are common. Even when I tried it one more time this summer I drove white knuckle the whole time. The winds were very strong and highway signs were saying road might close. I would stay on I-70 to grand Junction CO and then head north through Salt Lake City and Boise, ID.
