Overnight Stops!

Thought this idea would help newbies & old timers.

Post your best overnight stops between locations traveling South of the border.

On the leg between Nogales South to Mazatlan, El Mirador Hotel, Restaurant & RV Park, Playa Hautabampito, Sonora Mexico, http://ontheroadin.com/Mexico%20West%20Coast%202011/El%20Mirador%20Hotel.htm

This is normally our first stop but we already have our paperwork done ahead of time and do not have to waste time at KM21. Long drive but makes the remaining days easy. Food is outstanding and if you turn off in Navojoa, you will by-pass the toll booth when your return back to Hwy 15 South to Mazatlan. Plus there is a free drink / person with dinner the first night at the park.

I will post more of mine but this is just to get started.

We cross at Lukeville/Sonoyita. Our first nights stop is San Carlos. We have two large water dogs that seriously need their beach runs, and we seriously need a beach walk with them!

Our first stop is always at Edgar and Anna's in Santa anna. It's about an hour or so south of Nogales. They are a wonderful couple who will drop everything to give you a hand.

Many people, like us, stop there on their way north in the spring.

We'll be driving south into Mexico in a week or two, possibly at Laredo (TX) or Brownsville (TX). Any good rest stops / diesel stations (with ULSD) on the way south to Mexico City?

No ULSD in Mexico.

My first stop is usually the Pemex on the west side just before Novahoa. This is either #4142 or #4143. Very busy place. I carry sleeping pills for this stop. I have been out to Huatabampito, but the day I was there the wind was blowing very hard. Second day is one of the Mazatlan RV parks on the North end. Third night is Playa Amore near San Blas. I keep thinking about going over Tepic, but banana bread calls.

Now going North I have lots of stops. Too much of a hurry heading South with my desire to see old friends. I plan on leaving about Jan 3. Anybody want to tag along?

Brian: I think that CG is popular because of the food. Some of the best shrimp I have ever tasted. But the lot is all sand and our Bluebird almost sank out of sight. The water pressure would not even push the water out of the hose!

By my map this Mirador seems to be about 35 miles from Navojoa and then about 28 miles back to 15D - a very very long way off route for an overnight stop - especially in a big rig.

The Pemex I speak of is about 4 - 5 miles SOUTH of Las Mochis past the other Pemes stops mentioned - it is on the WEST side of 15D - fenced security guards etc. - not noisy at all. Not suggesting this instead of Mirador - just mention that it is there.

The Pemex on the east side is NOT the one where the guy was robbed last winter, he stopped at one of the little ones south of there, and parked away from everything.
Going north, there is a turn just before the overpass-the old one, not the big new one. Going south, same thing, but you have to go under the overpass to get to the Pemex. It has wonderful showers, and there is a fenced, guarded compound where generators aren't run at night. We tipped a bit, like we always do, and had a great night there.

Tequila: Did you ever answer Brian's question about that route? Is it big rig friendly? I know you are in a TC and can go places that others may find difficult. Rob: How did you get to that Pemex on the East side. I assume that is the one that is modeled after a flying J with a scale and what was supposed to be a small mall? The last time we were headed south I could not find any place to turn around and get to the east side. Is that the one where one RV'r was robbed?

Now I've discovered the way in from north of Navajoa and the Huatabampo by pass, its even easier.

Certainly:

After crossing the bridge at the north end of Navajoa, make a right hand turn very soon at the intersection containing the Sicombro Hotel and the GM dealer on your left. It is marked “Bacabampo”

Proceed a couple of km down a boulevard with a deep canal in the center.

At the end of this road turn left on the Periferico (Note there may be some development by now past this junction, so it may no longer be a T. You will know you are approaching it as there is a center island in the road with plants).

Proceed until you see Pemex #2137 on your right. Immediately past this station, take a hairpin turn to the right.

Follow this road for several kms south, passing through one medium sized town until you reach Pemex #9179 on the left. Here, make a left hand turn. (B4 the station)

Follow this road as it takes a 90 degree turn to the right, then south until it reaches a major intersection. Cross that intersection and curve around to the right, past a graveyard until you reach a T. Turn left.

Follow the road south a few kms to the Hotel Mirador on the right. There are a lot of Topes along this stretch. Note there is one Y- intersection along the route. Take the right hand fork.

The Better Choice of Pemex Stations South of Los Mochis is Not the one on the West side of 15, but rather the Older Station on the East Side!

My experience with the Newer station : Diesel Pumps were rigged to deliver less Fuel than indicated!

Never ever had a problem at the one on the East side!
