Sonoran Coastal Highway Puerto Peñasco to Bahia Kino

It's been some years since I've been in this part of the world. Looking at visiting Bahia Kino after a long absence. I've driven to Puerto Peñasco recently. Would like to know about road conditions south of PP along the coastal highway, through Puerto Lobos, Puerto Libertad, and on to Bahia Kino. Not towing or driving an RV, just my trusty Tahoe with camping gear. Thanks.

We travel that way twice a year to visit Kino Bay. There is a section of about 30 miles or so that has some serious potholes and you have to slow down to avoid them. The bad section starts about 20 miles south of libertad. Sometimes they fill the potholes with sand which makes it easier to get through the bad section. The government says they are going to spend 380 million pesos fixing it up in 2023.

That road is never in great condition. With climate change there is a lot of downpours. Heavy rains! Mexican asphalt magically dissolves in water! I have not been on the road lately, but the semis are still taking that route. In a 4 wheeler you will be fine. I should also warn you of severe cartel activity in Caborca. AMLO has sent troops to try and solve this problem. I realize you do not go to Caborca but it is close by. It is a great ride. We took our Bluebird on that route about 12 yers ago. The newer coastal road has the most amazing views of the sea. Enjoy.

Don't know personally, but we have a number of members who drive Mexican roads regularly.

Yes, your request for "current" information is very valid, and that is what I hope you get!
