Troncones RV Park - Gem on the Coast

We have stayed in quite a number of RV parks as we have traveled with our family through the length of Mexico. I have not had a lot of time to update out thoughts on the different parks as we go along, but there are a few that really stand out. Some stand out as ones we really are not interested in going to again, but some really stand out as ones that we would go out of our way to stay at again.
Troncones RV park is one that we would go out of our way to stay at again.
The RV park is small to be sure - only about 6 spaces I think. If you are one of those fortunate enough to pull in here you will not be disappointed though. We found the park to be well kept up, peaceful and quiet with good clean bathroom and shower. It has super easy access to the beach and restaurants. In fact, while we ate dinner at one of the restaurants within easy walking distance, our kids enjoyed playing on the beach while we waited for our food. And the food at the restaurant was absolutely Superb! We were a bit disappointed that we would not have time to let the kids ride the horses on the beach that were offered to us by the local people. We found the local people to be very friendly and kind as we usually do in Mexico.
Ok, back to Troncones RV park: Some parks we were at have little or no shade - Troncones is all about shade. Plenty of open area, but very nicely shaded so you aren't sitting out in the sun on concrete all day. Some question security in Mexico - don't even question it here in Troncones! We feel pretty secure here in Mexico in the first place, but here in Troncones, I seriously doubt that there has been more than a lost puppy for a long time let alone any sort of serious crime or violence.
If you are looking for a very peaceful, uncrowded park in Mexico on the west coast less than an hour North of the busy Zihuatanejo, you might consider Troncones - it really is a hidden Gem.

Hi John- just happened on your post and wanted to say HI. We think of you each time we pass Troncones. Hope you are doing well.

We spent three months there with 2 other 38 foot RV's. It is not set up to take big RV's in our opinion. The entrance was a nightmare to enter and especially leave. It is set up for small rigs, there was really no sites, just open space. The power was sufficient but we could not run more than one rigs air at a time. It was very warm there. I personally loved Troncones and if John has made improvements I would not hesitate to go back. The fishing was spectacular! The beach in front of the park is very dangerous, we almost lost our two Canadian friends traveling with us to the rip tide, very close call. Days later a young local drowned on the same beach taken out by the rip. There are safe beaches one can drive to. The girls got bored with us fishing and nothing for them to really do in Troncones. They would have to drive to Z to go shopping.
The restaurant across the street is great and has music on Saturdays
With all that said John was as good as a host as you would expect, Troncones definitely appeals to some. I would not hesitate visiting there again if the boss would let me.

Hi, I'm John the owner of the Troncones RV park. 2 years ago we had 3 38-40' motor homes for 3 months and were still able to add a couple small ones. Since then I have improved the entrance access so there should be no problem. And I do take reservations. With the new HWY 200 it is less than 20 mins. to Zihuatanejo. Last Fall they paved our section south from the T at the village, so thank heavens, road dust is a nuisance from the past.

Profdant - the beach is mostly sand with some rocky patches along the water from what I recall. It is across the street and down the small road about 100 yards from the RV park. It is open ocean there so the waves are not for small children to swim in. Play on the edge of the water should be no problem if they are supervised but very small children should not be allowed along the water alone.
Our youngest is 7 and had no problems or concerns. Beautiful beach 🙂
You can hear the waves from the rv park but they are not over powering as they have been at some parks where we stayed right beside the water.

How were the waves near the RV park? Was the beach rocky or sandy?

Turtle Toad - I am going to have to let someone else answer that since i don't have experience with big rig RV's (I don't think semi's count).
As far as room in the park, there certainly is room to park a big rig in there, but there may be issues getting it in - I'm not sure. There currently is a fifth wheel trailer in the yard that looks to be maybe 35'. It may be a bit more or less - I really didn't look at it that closely.
I am hoping that John can chime in here and give you a better answer.
We have our Chevy Venture van and a little tent trailer so that was no problem of course - but that doesn't help with your question. Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer.

Can they handle big rigs, and do they take reservations?

Nice place and being right in town, it is easy to get to. I think it would have been a bit hard to get to if it were a few miles North of town on the frontage road.

I stayed there before he moved it into town from a few miles north along the frontage road. I think the owner was Doug from Colorado or some place like that.
