Any tips on going through the Adirondacks?

Will be starting in Florida in a 24 Class B plus and would like to go through the Adirondacks. Always looking for a "must see" area, advise about rv parks, private or public and roads to take to eventually end up eating lobster in the Maine area. Leaving around the beginning of May 2014.

If you are into history, the Saratoga Battlefield at Schuylerville and the Ticonderoga Fort. Lake George is set up for tourists. The museum at Blue Mountain Lake is worth the trip and then up to Lake Placid. Lots of state campgrounds in the area but most are no hookups and sometimes size limited. The Robert Moses park on the St Lawrence is nice and amazing to watch the size of the ships going through the canal locks.
But as said before, Watch the black flies, bring or buy something high in Deet.

When in the Lake Placid area stay at the North Pole Resort. The KOA down the road is in the woods and is very dusty at times.

Good CG: Lake Placid KOA. (Not actually in Lake Placid, but not far from it.) Very nice, shady, room for bigger rigs as well as smaller ones.

+1 on black flies in June - been there, done that.

The Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake shows the history of the area and how it has changed over time.
Old Forge Hardware is an experience. If they don't have it it probably was never made.
There's the Olympic Venue in Lake Placid, IIRR you can take a bobsled ride year-round. Near there is the drive up Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington.
Tupper Lake has the Natural History Museum. I'd say it's more geared for kids with the hands-on displays, but we've been members since it opened.
Can't comment on Lake George, we were there once and found it too commercial & tourist-y.
We prefer to dry camp in DEC (State) cg's but our favorite private cg is North Pole Resorts in Wilmington near Lake Placid.

June is black fly season......and they can cause some discomfort if bitten!
