Colter Bay RV Park - Tetons

Anyone been there and know if their 45' max lengths listed on recreation.net are hard and fast? Looking at the pics, the ones listed with that length look longer.

I ask because our fifth wheel is 36' long and Dodge Ram truck has 8' bed, thus, to hitch its 52'.

Getting a site there is an ordeal, and I've tried numerous days, but my timing hasn't been good, thus I keep striking out.

Other locations that could accomodate us would be appreciated.

Thanks

Edit - I was finally successful in reserving a site...its listed at 45', which is their max listed on any site.

Thanks everyone for your replies! The site we got sure looks long enough, and good to know some of ya have had no troubles. I wish they'd be more detailed in their info...your responses have proven what I suspected...45' is a generic max they just slap on each site. Classic govt huh? If I owned it, or likely many of you, it would actually be accurate and include height clearance info.

Get this...I saw some info that said for something like mid-2023 reservations, they will be able to be made like 13 months in advance. I can't find the info now...maybe it was accidentally posted and then taken down...but who in the flip can plan that far out? And if you don't, will you ever be able to get at site if they implement it?

FWIW, I booked Yellowstone 12 months in advance and I think the Tetons were maybe 9 months? (This was 2017). I donโ€™t like booking that far out, but we already know our future trip at that point, and I put in for my vacation time early.
Gone are the days of just pulling in somewhere and getting a spot.

Thanks! I hadn't looked closely enough at that....thought it was all tents.

When we were there in 2016, we had a long bed crew cab pulling a 38' fiver and had no problems in our site. I think I actually called to make reservations instead of doing it online and I made reservations nearly a year in advance

We stayed there with a 40' 5th wheel had to situated just right for awning, power and sewer to work. If you have an extension cord for your trailer bring it.

They are pretty long sites. I had my 35ft TT and 20 ft Excursion in one as well as my cousins crew cab long bed at an angle behind my trailer. Lots of 40+ foot RVs were there.

Now Fishing Bridge (Yellowstone) was another story. There 45ft site (that I verified after parking the trailer) didnโ€™t for my 35ft trailer.

Youโ€™ll be fine at Colter Bay.

This is copied from the recreation.gov site for Colter Bay RV Park;
"Facilities
Colter Bay RV Park offers 112 full-hookup pull-through and back-in sites which include sewer, water, and 20-, 30-, and 50-amp electric outlets. Each pull-through RV site has a gravel parking space for one RV and one tow vehicle, with a maximum total length of 45 feet.* Each back-in site has a gravel parking space for one RV and one tow vehicle, with a maximum total length of 30 feet.* All sites include a picnic table, access to nearby water spigots, flush toilets, and laundry and showers available for an additional fee. Propane is available for purchase.

*Site sizes vary, please check individual site specifications before booking to confirm site accommodations.

I would call the park and double check to be sure.

We stayed at Coulter Bay 5 years ago and our site accommodated our 32 ft. fifth wheel easily. It was a pull through with easy access. I do recall that I had to block the road when hooking up the trailer. Very nice facility.

In one site, an end site, was a 45 ft. diesel Pusher with a paint matched enclosed car trailer still hooked up which housed the man's Corvette. I was impressed until I saw the vette didn't match the paint scheme of the other rigs!

Nice! Maybe the vette was still a work in progress. Hella lotta $$ wrapped up in that stuff.

Length is for the RV unit only not the total towing length

I was thinking that too back when I started looking into this, but here's what they say in the FAQs on recreation.gov:

"Maximum RV/Trailer Length
If the RV and trailer length listed on the campsite are the same length, then the trailer length is accounting for the tow vehicle as well as the actual trailer. If the RV and trailer length listed on the campsite are different (like the trailer length is smaller than the RV length), the trailer length is not accounting for the tow vehicle."

Almost all the sites have same max length equipment listed for all types. This one, actually has no lengths listed, but driveway is shown at 45'...which is same as the ones that have 45' max RV & trailer lengths.
WOW, that sounds like a bunch of government double talk, reads like it was written by an RV warranty salesman. :h

Hi mleekamp

Thanks for the info! Do you happen to remember which site you were in? Did they give ya a quiz about vehicle size at check in?

I got site 404. We're 13'3" tall to top of A/C (only 1). I can't tell if we'll fit under the trees or not.

I'm somewhat leery of calling and saying, yeah, we're 52' long, can we fit in a 45' space. I can imagine the thoughtless response being 'no'. I may end up doing that, but hoping to get more info here first.

Heres the site I got...there were 6 avail this AM...gone in the blink of an eye. This ones in a less congested area, so maybe access will be better.
