Florida Campground - Stay for 6, Pay for 12?

Good Sam sent out an email newsletter today and one of the featured articles was about a new RV Park in Florida. I checked out the rates and to me the rates seem high (even for Florida) considering that they are inland, but maybe their rates are reasonable. What shocked me is they offer a 12-month price at a little more than twice the 6-month price, and it says "6 here 6 away". Does that mean you are paying a little more than the same rate for 6 months that you don't use the park? That makes no sense to me. They can charge whatever they want; I just don't understand why anyone would take that deal. Can someone here explain?

Well, I hoped you had quickly happened upon a good deal for covered storage in Florida, but alas you did not. Not that I expect you to try, understanding that it is not a priority in your life.

My goal was not to find a good deal. My goal was to show VoodooMedicineMan that RV storage rates in Florida are comparable to those in Texas.

Well, having stored both places, I'll tell you prices in Fl are not the same as in TX. In your example you are comparing covered storage in TX with uncovered in FL. Not sure why you care at all about Florida storage rates or 6/6 rates at some campground in Florida...

Not sure why you care about what I care about.

No worries, I read this thread simply because I am interested in campgrounds and good storage options (especially in Florida or near family or near various cruise ports).

Linking to that page, a little farther down it says, "Covered storage coming soon...$175.00 month" Being in central FL, I knew $89.00 was for outside storage. $175.00 & up is what I've found, if I could find covered storage at all. Up until recently, Lakeland-near Tampa- had no covered storage. They now have it starting at $190.00/mo.

Those rates are crazy. No way you should pay that much, especially for Labelle Florida: it is not near anything. If you want to be that far south then the rates will be higher than where we are but not that high. We are at "The Olde Mill Stream RV resort in Umatilla Florida. I know a couple of others who are in Lakeland and Arcadia and both of those are just a bit more or about the same for the 6 by 6.
Have Fiver will travel with little or no notice at all. I do need to stop at rest areas now and then:)

When we were kids we would say "Tell me something I don't know."

If you're saying that you can't find RV storage at a reasonable price in Florida, I just checked. You can.

Selena Gomez: Tell Me Something I Don't Know

Did your search lead you to covered storage for $100 (or so) in Florida? If so, what size space and where?

I do have a reasonably priced (in my opinion) in Florida, but uncovered and no power. If I'd be thrilled if I could find a good rate on an appropriately sized covered storage slot in a good location. Just wonder how long is the wait list.

Those taking the 6/6 option are storing for six months during a Florida summer, might want to run their ac's enough to cut humidity to help prevent mold and mildew. They also hold their favored space for the next winter. Understandably, the 6/6 option does not suit you or I or many others, but it might suit some people, so pricing is available for them.

I did a very quick Google search and this was the first RV storage in Florida that I checked.

West Tampa Storage

I'd say $89 a month is equal to what I was seeing here in Dallas. The storage in Dallas did not include power, but it did have a roof. I can't say about this one because it's not that important to me to spend the time investigating it. What this tells me is if I found this near a major Florida city in a 5-minute search, I'm sure there are better deals out there if I was seriously looking. If I was storing an RV for 6 months it wouldn't need to be located close to a major city where prices are higher.

Do some people own two RVs and leave one in the South and one in the North and live 6 months in one and 6 months in the other? In that case it makes some sense. They wouldn't need to have a tow vehicle if they are both trailers and they just wanted a place to live. Still I saw a UHaul storage in Dallas where you can store an RV for about $100 per month under a roof. That's what I would do if I wasn't going to use mine for 6 months.

Where we are it is called a six by six because you can stay up to six months and leave your unit on the site all year. Some people who want to stay an extra month or two pay an additional minimum fee for staying longer. The town we are in does limit the number of people who van stay in the park for the entire year because of the way the park is taxed. We pull our fiver home but leave a car parked on our patio so that we don't have to drive the big truck everywhere. It is one rate and is actually less money than paying for five individual months at the regular rates.

Hmm? On the website for the new RV Park mentioned by Good Sam it is actually no discount to keep it there all year; they actually pay more than 12 X the summer rate, and the summer rate isn't much less than their winter rate. I guess the mods won't mind if I post the link here because this forum seems to be owned by or partnered with Good Sam. Here are the rates:

Oak Grove RV Resort Rates
I the six months there, six months away means you can leave your rig on the site year round, then the pricing makes perfect sense. It is less for each unoccupied period then the corresponding occupied rate. If it is left on the site, the park has no ability to rent that site for the higher occupied rate. Sounds fair to me.
