Has anyone ever camped at Gulf Shores State Park in Alabama? We were thinking of going this July. If so, do you have any pictures of the park???? Is it a nice park?

Pull it up on Google earth or some other mapping program. This a large campground. You could be as close to the beach as couple hundred yards or up to a mile or more. Most folks drive over to the beach pavilion. There is plenty of parking and campers park for free.

Thanks. I just did that. Is there a separate beach pavilion from the pier? I'm trying to see what is what on the map. THANKS!!!!

Yes there is a separate pavilion for the beach. The pier is West on Perdido Beach Blvd (182) and the pavilion is East. County Rd 2 T's at Perdido Beach Blvd. Go West (turn right) to the pier and East (turn left) to the pavilion. The parking lot for the beach pavilion is easily seen as it is quite large.

Perfect, thanks

I don't think I want to be on the lake. Lol. How far is it to the beach? Just outside the gate or right inside the park?

We went several years ago. Pool was being built as was the boardwalk/pier. Nice and LARGE campground. We stayed by the lake on the upper end. People pulling their youngins on a wakeboard in the lake??? I saw a 12/14 foot gator yes 12 /14 foot right behind our camper. There is a sign DO NOT FEED THE ALIGATORS 10 foot behind the camper. Do not leave your pet or children un attended. But don't let that spoil your fun LOL. Go and have a great time We did and will go back. Larry

We was there for two weeks at the end of May and was in one of the pull thru spots at the SW corner. We walked to the beach everyday and it would take us only about 10 minutes. Out of the two weeks the surf was rough about 6 days. The pool was going full blast.

Double red flags were up one day while we were there June 10th, but I would not ding the park because of it. We find it to be a very nice park, and the vegetation is slowly growing back. It seems like the sites with some shade stay filled. I wouldn't walk to the beach from the campground, but bikes are an option. We drive due to the stuff that we seem to always take. (umbrella, chairs, cooler, etc) Next year we will be back again.

Why was the pool closed? How far is the beach? Do you have to drive to it?

We stayed there in April. It was just OK. Large pull thru sites, full hook up, very poor WIFI, pool closed, beach closed due to rip tide. Don't think I would go back.

As Terrydactile said there is wifi, but it is very weak. It is OK early in the morning, but gets worse as the day goes on. I used Foxfi/PDAnet wifi with my android phone and got great service.

No we don't have any camping plans this right now. The last time we camped was last summer up at Myrtle Beach. We can't tow the camper with our old truck. We are in the process of looking to get a new TV but probably won't get one until summer so will be too late to do any summer beach camping. Hope you guys have fun and will have to let us know how you like Gulf Shores.

We just got a Ford F250 ourselves. Our other vehicle was having transmission problems, so we sold it. We are now empty nesters, so Cameron and I want to start traveling.
