Hello all! My husband and son are wanting to take a fishing trip up in Michigan for some large mouth bass and northern pike. Can anyone give us a suggestion to try out that would be around a 6 hour drive from the Dayton Ohio area. Thanks!!

Great to hear that they had a good time. Yeah, them skeeters will find you. We were in the UP and were not treated kindly by the black flies and skeeters. Thoughts on naming them the state bird!!!

Thank you for the suggestion of Jack's Landing! My husband and son just returned from a long weekend of fishing there and had a great time! Thank you for the heads up for the stumps and they also ran into motor clogging grass! Other than the Mosquitos, fishing was good and they had a great time! Thank you again!

Fletchers Pond AKA Fletchers Flood Waters will be good for pike. I know you are looking for a trip within six hours of Dayton however, The Les Cheneaux Islands in the Eastern UP has very good pike and bass (more small mouth than large mouth) fishing. We also have a strongly rebounding perch fishery (12-15" are common) LCI is about 9 hours from Dayton and includes the towns of Cedarville and Hessel, Michigan. If you come up you will feel right at home as the vast majority of our summer folks are Cincy Dayton Folks!

Thanks Mike, we'll look at those links.

Where he really wants to go is Ely Minnesota but that's too far to go for a long weekend! That's why he thought about heading to Michigan but I guess he would consider any place within a six hour drive for good fishing!

I have no personal experience with bass and pike fishing in lower Michigan (our MI family always went to Ontario for pike, go figure). But you might cross check between these DNR web pages that show better waters for largemouth and pike. largemouth waters and pike waters .

I have read some positive comments about Muskegon Lake, if that helps.
