I would like to know if anyone has stayed at this campground before and what they thought of it. We are thinking about staying here this summer. I would also like to know if their sites can accomodate our 38' fifth wheel. Any info is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

There are a few smaller CG's along the Muskingum River outside Marietta (Ashland RV Park, Marietta RV Park, etc...), but I have never been to them, so I can offer no opinions.

Wolf Run State Park in Caldwell, Ohio is about 35 miles from Marietta. We go there almost every year. It is a VERY nice CG and easy tow.

Carthage Gap CG near Coolville, Ohio is maybe 20 minutes from Parkersburg. We have stayed in the lower area and the upper area. I preferred the upper area in the outer sites (more space). The owners there were fantastic people.

There are a few other CG's along the Ohio River and Muskingum River that I am not familiar with...maybe someone else can chime in on those.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but there aren't a ton of CG options around here.

Thank you VERY MUCH for letting me know. It is so great to get this info. a head of time and not after driving about 4 hours to get there.

Other than North Bend are there other options in the Parkersburg, Marietta Ohio area?

Thank you!

I am very familiar with this CG. My parents actually have a seasonal site there. Unfortunately, the CG has gone downhill over the years. The condition of the entrance road is atrocious surface-wise. Around 95% of the campers there are seasonals or construction workers (highway workers, oil/gas, etc..) It is a well-designed CG, with many level sites, Most of the full hook-up sites (E/W/S) are located in the lower level, and are mostly occupied with seasonals. If I were to stay there again, I would stay in the "lower" full hook-up loop (as far to the end of the loop as possible) or the electric-only section in the upper right area (more shaded and private sites). If you don't need sewer, I would recommend the upper right section (quieter and I prefer to be in the treed area). The CG is about a mile from Mountwood Park, which has pretty good trails (hiking and biking), decent picnic areas, and a decent lake). The park and CG were showplaces when I was a kid, but the funding is nowhere near what it used to be. They are doing an excellent job at bringing the park back up to par, and hopefully funds will someday be available for the CG too.

As mentioned before, North Bend State Park is much nicer (although a half hour farther from Parkersburg). NB has two CG's to choose from - one in the park along the stream (shaded, usually more crowded) and a newer one just outside the park in a field (very nice, no trees, bigger sites, and lake access). If you don't mind the extra drive, I would go with North Bend, as it offers better CG's, access to the Rail Trail, and an excelent lake. If you go with NB, I suggest towing on the Harrisville exit. The Cairo exit will take you along a very interesting road (nice drive when not towing).

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

I drove through there two years ago when we were visiting Parkersburg and decided we didn't want to stay there. It is a county park and at that time it was in very poor condition, to the extend that I sent an email to the county commissioners expressing my disappointment of their facility. I would recommend going out US 50 to Harrisville and staying in the new section of North Bend State Park.
