Yes we always stayed at the KOA in cartersville georgia and they closed this year so we can stay on the north are south side of atlanta on the way to florida

I'm not sure I understand your question perfectly: are you looking for a site near Atlanta (north or south of the city), or just one south of the city?

In the first case, Red Top Mountain State Park looks to me like a good possibility for an overnight stay, about 35-40 miles from the middle of Atlanta and with easy access to the interstate. I haven't been there personally.
