I've read reviews about this CG & it sounds like a possible overnight spot on our trip to Yellowstone. Wondering if some one who has stayed there or is familiar with area would suggest having reservations on a Thursday in July? Read on the reviews there is a $10 charge to make reservations in addition to daily vehicle fee +!the CG fee. Just trying to budget! TIA!

Been to Boyd a few times. Been to St Vrain many times. Hwy noise at St Vrain largely depends on which loop & wind direction. The FHU area is a treeless wasteland & closer to the hwy. The power only loop is much nicer than the FHU loop. Each site has a shelter. Some sites are right next to the lake.

St. Vrain or Boyd Lake SP should work, just depends on how far off the interstate you want to get. Coming in on a Thursday for either one should not be a problem.

Here's the website for checking out both. Scroll down a bit and use the drop down on the left side of the screen to check out both parks, they have pics that can give you an idea of amenities.

3rd vote for Boyd Lake. St Vrain is right on the freeway. If you dont mind traffic noise and just want a stop over it will probably work, but Boyd Lake SP is much better.

Another vote for Boyd Lake State Park. Much quieter and certainly more scenic. I tried to stay at St Vrain one time and couldn't stand the noise regardless of location within the park.

I stay at St Vrain every year for a week in the Bald Eagle loop. No traffic noise at all just a great park. For the most part Thursday should be ok as long as its not the first weekend in july.

You should be able to find a spot on a Thursday. Friday or Saturday, not so much.

I would go a little further north, and stay at Boyd Lake State Park. Bigger campground, and not right off the interstate, so there won't be nearly as much auto noise.
