Very dissapointed in Raccoon Mtn. Campground, Chattanooga!

I made a reservation about 2 months in advance of our trip this past weekend. When we got to the campground, they had us on lot 89. "It's one of the new spots and a good lot", says the guy at the desk. Ha!

It was pitiful! The lot was very uneven. It had no concrete pad, which isn't a bad thing in some campgrounds. The sewer hookup was higher than the outlet on our 5er (and we all know what doesn't flow uphill). The back of the lot, which was about 4' from the back of our camper, was garnished with a wall and bed of poison ivy. The rest of the lot, where there was a little grass, had not been cut or maintained in a while so the grass (weeds) was about 8" high. The rest of the lot consisted of dead grass (weed) or just dirt. There came a slight rain the day before we left, and the place was a big mud puddle. The truck and camper was muddy by the time we got out of the lot.
I'll be finding another place to reserve in the future. I wish I had thought to take pictures of the spot while we were there.

Again, very disappointing as a destination facility. We stayed there about 10 years ago, but only as a place to park for an overnight rest on a trip.

Before you say "why didn't you leave?". This was a Memorial Day weekend, and we wouldn't have had any other place to park, with exception of Walmart parking lot, which might not have been a bad choice.

No it is in TN and the whole park needs addressing. I24 comes thru Chattanooga and back to GA and then back to TN. Cloud Land is very nice just no black dumping. Bring a tote if you go. On down 59 is Desoto Fort Payne full hook ups and a great place to stay.

I've also stayed at Desoto. You are correct. That is a beautiful park.

Have to agree with "rotten"---not a very good campground. Stayed there several years ago. The paved road runs thru the middle of the park, since it is a county road (lots of Friday & Sat night traffic). Folks on adjoining sight had fenced in puppies who of course pee'd in the grassy area for 3 days). Feel sorry for the folks who got that site after they left. Busloads of school kids visiting the adjoining cave used the bathhouse every day. Heard loud music from nearby campers. Will never camp there again.

I was visiting my brother for the long weekend and wanted to get in a CG as close to them as possible. Chester Frost would have been the best one for me, but you can't make reservations there (first come, first serve) and there's no way I could have gotten a spot just pulling up on a holiday weekend.

Got friends who lived there for over 6 months back in the 90's. They liked it. I've stayed there overnight a few times when passing thru Chatt. For Riverbend Festival, I stay in Chester Frost County Park and do a little fishing off the dock over on Dallas Island. I guess a great deal has to do with your expectations. Pehaps the OP should have stayed at Pirate's. They are the camping world over at the state line and when it rains, the whole area there floods several feet. Now THAT'S a puddle!

Yuk it doesn't look very appealing at all. Nothing but a field with gravel drives. I'd be totally disappointed.

We stayed at Raccoon Mt for two nights as we traveled through the area. We were on site 157 which was a 50A full service pull-through. While not first-class resort quality, Our experience was very good, and we would stay again. At that time, it appeared that the row of sites used by the OP were all newer, and still were not developed or maintained as well as most of the older sites. Consitering the prices, I would probably be upset also if we had been in the new rowq of sites. If we stay on our way back, I will be very careful of which site we are assigned to.

Have never been up in there. We always see the sign on our way to CLOUDLAND CANYON State Park just a few miles down the road on I59 at the Trenton, GA exit.

CLOUDLAND CANYON WEST RIM sites

Will have to stop by and take a look at it on one pf these trips..
