Zooland in Asheboro NC or Crosswinds in Linwood?

We are planning on our first weekend out for 13 this coming weekend. My wife has to work the week in Charlotte, so we're headed west out of Apex. I'm thinking 2 hours max as I leave from work in Cary around 5. Crosswinds would be about as far as I wanna go.
We've been to Zooland twice, once with prior owners who sold it, and once with newer owners. While they have made improvements, the FHU sites aren't good IMO, I'd wanna stay down by the creek in the W/E sites. Something they can't help is the traffic noise as I remember it being loud unless you have the a/c on.
Never been to Crosswinds, read great things by folks here, some of whom I'm pretty sure I've met.
Any others appreciated, I've been searching using rvparkreviews.

Yea, I drained it to the outside before winter. It did make the water foamy and smelly. What a pita it was. I bought this blue chemical fresh water tank treatment and had to fill it to 2/3rds, rock it, run water out each faucet for a few minutes. Drained the water heater a couple of times, filled the tank to cap, flushed the lines again, drained the tank again.

Glad you had a fairly good time at CW with the weather and things going on. I do know that your water heater has to be handled carefully when winterizing and re-opening. Did you drain it to the outside when closing up? Also I rock my TT from side to side as there is a "white stuff" that buils up in the bottom of the tank. That most likely is whst caused your problem and water that has just been sitting around waiting on you to return, can get pretty smelly.
If you have kids, you must try to do Dan Nicholas Park sometime. Lots os things there to keep them busy and happy.

I posted my review on rvparkreviews. Pretty nice place, great little playground for little kids. The weather was pretty cool, low 50's and constant wind, so it wasn't ideal. Looking to try Dan N. park next time I'm that way.
I had a time with our TT first time out. They did something at the lot where I had it for sale that blew both my main 40A fuses and had all my breakers turned off. That took me a little bit to figure out. I had drained my water heater, bypassed it and winterized the system. For some reason, my hotwater heater was funking up the water making it foamy and stinky. I already knew my freshwater tank needed flushing, so I spent quite a bit of time taking care of all that. Not fun, but it's good to go now!

Yea, we plan to check those places out. Seems like you have to book plenty in advance for Dan N. Park

You will be fine at CW. great folks there. Not much for the kids to do but you are not far from driving to the activities at Dan Nicholas Park. The cg is only 1 small part of it. Also the NC Train Museum is close by in Spencer.Daniel Boone Cave Park is right up Hwy 150 from CW

Just booked Crosswinds. If it's loud at night, I'll just turn the a/c on ๐Ÿ™‚ Looking forward to checking out a new area.

Looks like Dan Nicholas is booked up. Dang it. Now I'm between Zooland and Crosswinds. High Rock is mostly permanent sites with just a few overnighters. I'd rather be with other temps like myself.... :B

Yea, I did see that park and have heard good things about it. I'd prefer FHU, but if we go to Zooland, I'd stay in the lower area with W/E only. So I'll check out Dan Nicholas. We have two boys, 14 and 10. Want to make sure they have fun.
How is High Rock Lake?

Cross Winds is nice with great owners. If you don't need a dump at your site, I would suggest Dan Nicholas park in Salisbury. My reasons are that if you think Zooland has road noise, you will be bothered at CW by I-85 highway noise, train horns night and day and they are working on the roads in that area right now paving and installing new bridges. None of the sounds at either of these have bothered us but you mentioned it as maybe a problem for you. DN is much quieter though and you will be on the Charlotte side of I85 construction area..

Mocks its and wills250psd stayed at crosswinds not too long ago. We dropped by to see them. Looked like an ok camper. Didn't see a whole lot as they were staying in the front of the park.

We love Crosswinds. Have stayed there 2x. They are Passport America park but with restrictions. They have some sites out in the open (for satellite) and lots of wooded sites. Be sure to read the directions and follow them. It's a bit tricky if you aren't paying attention. Nice bath house, pool. Very nice friendly management.
