1989 Nuwa Hitchhiker II axles

I'm stuck in a campground in Hugoton Kansas. I've got a 1989 Nuwa Hitchhiker II 29 foot 5th wheel and one of the tires/wheels/hubs/drum fell off as I was pulling into the campground. The bearings are completely gone and the hub/drum is ruined. I think the problem was that the brakes somehow stuck and it all melted down.

There are no RV stores in Hugoton, but my impression is that these are pretty common axles, and parts might be available locally if I knew what they are. I could not find a tag on them. The only paperwork I could find says 10 inch brakes.

The service department is first rate too. I stop by once a year with a list of glitches and upgrades. They don't even blink at projects that would be major for most local dealers. After a few weeks in the Utah desert, I dropped my FW off one morning and picked it up after lunch with a second AC.

If you have a problem around SE Kansas just head for Chanute.

PS: Young's built Nuwa's frames for decades. They are neighbors.

The drums, brakes and axles on my 2011 are from Dexter.

Spindle's ruined so I pulled the axle. Nuwa says to contact Young's welding in Chanute.

KSSteve, You could contact NUWA although they no longer manufacture RV's they maintain a service and parts department. They are very helpful and with your, year, model number, vin they could tell you what axle was on your trailer.

I have called them several times for info and suggestions. They've always been very helpful. Perhaps they have what you need on hand. If not I'm sure they'll know who does.

Thanks. TSC is a good suggestion if I can figure out what the axle is. I think the spindle is actually OK.

Try to find a Tractor Supply store. They may have the part.

There should be a trailer shop somewhere that could help. There is always the internet and Etrailer.com should have what you are looking for. I know for a fact that for a price they can get you parts really fast.

Honestly though, it may be easier to buy a new axle if the axle you have turns out to be too extensively damaged.

Thanks!
