I do not do a pull test but do check the jaws on my Reese classic. I also have one of those Butch's Services bars that slides in behind the king pin.

You went ,and done it now, you know full well the only ones that don't have to do a pull test is the B&W crowd, with their FOOLPROOF hitch . :B

Well... I will say this.... I drove Big Trucks for over 35 years and was pounded in my head to perform a pull test early on... Never left without doing one... caught 1 potential issue when the hitch failed....

Did one with my Pullrite.... Will do one with my new B&W... It's branded in my memory.....

You SHOULD do what works for YOU. But I still Highly advise doing the VISUAL test as shown in pics above.

I keep a small AAA Maglight in my side door compartment, Once hooked up, while plugging in the electric, shine it around the jaws.... Been using that for many, many years

Yep, they're foolproof, but NOT idiot proof, as I can attest.

You can't fix stupid, and as long as people use these hitches, IMO they should give themselves every chance to prevent a mistake . Granted some should not be towing these big heavy fifth wheels, and for sure not be hearing a visual test is all thats needed.

I will do maybe my last pull test when we can hit the road in May or early June because I just feel better doing it. Lock my hitch also. chevman

2 different guys.... The guy narrating the video with the F450 is NOT the guy who dropped the fiver on hid truck.....

I have watched a few of the BigTruck/BigRv YouTube videos.... Some are interesting... some are not.. HE has the 450

I saw the guy drive his new f-450 and saw the 06 chev being driven to the ford's lot. chevman

Just got a new Curt hitch when got new truck. Did you check to see if green was showing? I always have done a pull test for 15 yea

Hi Dickok, yes, the green is not showing and the jaws are not locked. I then pull ahead and they lock up and no further problems . I am just puzzled as why the jaws do not lock up when I back in. They had been locking up on back in for 3 and half years. Maybe a part is wore out. Jim2007.

Well I challenge anyone to show proof of a dropped trailer using a B&W hitch that the pin box plate is touching the hitch plate, the 1" thick machined jaws are closed around kingpin and handle is closed pinned to locked.

I am waiting.

One BIGGIE to NOT do with a B&W is pin the handle open!!!!!!!

I threw my pin away and use a padlock.

Wanna see =my= pics? ๐Ÿ™‚ Not the hitch's fault; totally =my= fault that I dropped my FW off my Companion. What happens when you get in a hurry and skip your checklist... ๐Ÿ˜ž

As long as we're talking hitches I notice you have the Trailair TriGlide pin. I had one on my toyhauler and 2 of the 3 rollers on the bottom broke their welds. The trailer would bang back and forth on starts and stops. The rollers are inside where those three zerx fittings are. The remaining roller was all that was keeping the trailer attached to the truck. TriGlides arean't made anymore. I got a new Trailair hitch without the bottome TriGlide portion. Keep an eye on yours for any failures.

There is one thing for sure, it will prevent an issue that can happen with "ANY" hitch.
